Book Full of Gift Cards

CoverHello everyone!  Christmas is barely a week away and I am sure that you are scrambling to get everything done.  I am always stumped by what to give my two nieces who have everything they need!  So this year I decided to make them each a book filled with gift cards to places they shop.  This is a project that takes some time – I am estimating I spent about 5 hours per page designing, die cutting and putting them together.  Also, you need to think ahead and be sure to have products on hand that will portray each subject.  Of course you could make the pages more generic which would take a lot less time. I love the cover – isn’t she fabulous!  Enjoy this project and please let me know if you have any questions.

More Christmas Cards

Joy-to-the-WorldCan you believe Christmas will be here in about 2 weeks?  Yikes!  If you're still looking for Christmas card inspiration, I have some for you today.  Last week I showed you the Manger Luminaria (Impression Obsession Manger die) and today I have 2 cards made with the same die set. The card on the left is a very clean and simple one.  I die cut the image from gold metallic cardstock, scored it 3 times at the top and taped red cardstock behind the negative space.  I then taped it to a white card and added the sentiment (Penny Black die World of Wishes).  Inspiration for this sample is from Dina Kowal.

Silent-Night

The second card I made is a little larger (A6 or 4½“ x 6¼”) and the photo may not show it clearly but the manger extends beyond the card.  For this card I used Impression Obsession die Manger; Spellbinders die Petite Ovals; Background is Impression Obsession Cover-a-Card Wood Planks; sentiment by Penny Black; design inspired by Ellen Taylor

Cottage-LuminariaAnd then keeping with the luminaria theme, I made one with the Poppystamps Cute Cottage die. I hope you can see the Santa and reindeer above the house!  Here are the supplies I used for this 3D project:

Poppystamps dies Cute Cottage, Frosted Roof and Ledges and Leafy Garland; Taylored Expressions die On Dasher, On Dancer; Impression Obsession die Tags (Merry); designed inspired by Kay Miller

Here are some other Christmas samples.

Pop-up-sledding

Sledding Pop-up Box – Impression Obsession dies Evergreen Trees, Fir Trees, Sled, Small Snowflakes; Spellbinders die Labels 1; sentiment by Hero Arts

Hero-Holidays-3DHero Holidays 3D – Hero Arts Stamp & Cut Fancy Cuts Holidays; design inspired by Yana Smakula

For this really fast yet impressive card, simply die cut the Holidays from a white card with red inside.  Take the die cut word and mount it slightly offset for a 3D or drop shadow effect.  The stamp the holly leaves and berries, add some metal gems, and stamp the sentiment.  The Hero Arts set includes the words "Happy" and "Holidays" as well as many little stamps to go with them.

Hero-Winter-SparkleHero Winter Sparkle – Hero Arts Winter Sparkle Background stamp; Copic makers; design inspired by Nicole Parmentier

I absolutely love this card!  The stamp has all the words on it and you draw the lines and color!  How easy and relatively quick.  It's a very bright and colorful way to send holiday greetings.

Texas-Howdy

For the Texas fans on your holiday list, send a Texas size greeting using dies and stamp from Deadbeat Designs (DD).  DD sells a Texas Flag die in a larger size; I adapted the flag design to one of their smaller Texas dies and added the Santa hat.  How Fun!

Texas Howdy – Deadbeat Designs die Texas Trio; Memory Box die Holiday Hats; sentiment by Deadbeat Designs

Pine-Spruce-Peace-Doves

I love to play with unconventional color themes for holiday cards.  Here I've chosen teal, white and silver.  Very pretty!

Pine Spruce Peace Doves – Memory Box dies Frosted Pine Tree, Frosted Spruce Tree and Peace Doves; sentiment by Hero Arts; design inspired by Deborah Nolan

Reindeer-Snowflake-Bgrd

Reindeer Snowflake Background – Impression Obsession dies Snowflake Background, Reindeer and Tags; design inspired by Ellen Taylor

Around-Town-WhiteAround Town White – Penny Black dies Around Town and Polaroid; Penny Black clear stamp set Joy Filled; design inspired by Birgit Edblom.

I hope you enjoy these samples.  Be sure to stop in and see what's new at The Stamp Act!

Impression Obsession Manger Luminaria

CompletedI love using papercrafting supplies to make 3 dimensional home décor items and what better time than Christmas to present friends and family with a 3D card.  The Impression Obsession Manger die is perfect for this.  The idea for this luminaria is based on one Dina Kowal, member of IO’s design team, made.  Here are the instructions for making this luminaria:

Cut the manger out twice from (fairly) heavy cardstock – I used chestnut woodgrain cardstock from American Crafts.

Cut a piece of heavyweight vellum and glue it to the front of one of the manger die cuts.  Note:  both mangers have to be “face” up because the die cut is not symentrical.

Die cut grass (I used My Favorite Things die) out of the same woodgrain cardstock.  Glue it along the bottom of the manger on top of the vellum.  Note: Apply glue just to the very bottom of the manger on top of the vellum because you will need to place Joseph and Mary under the grass and you don’t want the glue to interfere with placement.

Next glue the second manger die cut on top of the first one, sandwiching the vellum and grass between them.

Die cut Mary and Joseph twice from white cardstock.  Adhere one set (with foam tape) to the front manger, placing them under the grass.  Adhere the other set on the back using wet glue.  Be sure to check for identical alignment!  You can see in my photo I didn’t take my own advice!

Now that the manger scene is completed, make a base out of the same woodgrain cardstock cutting it to 2¾” X 10⅝”.  Score it at 3½” from each long end so that the middle section is 3⅝” wide.  Score the entire base at ¼”.

Next apply ¼” score tape to the middle section and ⅛” scor tape to the two end sections aligning the tape along the scored line.  I cut the top off the two end sections so that they were only ⅛” tall (the height of the tape).  This way they didn’t protrude past the manger’s sides when adhered on the back.

Remove the release paper on the middle section of the base and adhere the manger scene to the base being careful to place it so the side scor lines are the same on both sides.

At this point you can fold the two ends of the base in and mail the “card” in a 9” x 12” envelope (did you know this size envelope takes regular postage?).  I would place it between two pieces of chipboard so it won't be bent. If you choose to mail it with a flameless candle, it will fit nicely with the candle in a USPS Priority Mail small flat rate box.

Here are some photos and instructions for assembling the finished luminaria.

Tape-PaperRemove white paper on sides of manger’s base to reveal a double sided tape

Back-FinishedEdges of side panels are scored along the tape – fold them up

Side panels are also scored at frame’s edges -- fold them in to form base in shape of a flat “U”

Attach each taped edge of base to the back of each frame side

Lit-at-night-2Set a flameless candle in the base.

The luminaria looks great during the day, but at night with all the lights out it really shines.

The Manger die will be back in stock this week so please call me (915-833-9500) if you want me to reserve one for you!  Enjoy and have a wonderful Christmas season and a very happy new year.
