For Cat Lovers

Cat-napHi friends.  In my family, my sister and brothers are the cat lovers.  My younger brother and his wife have a huge house in San Antonio and they foster many, many cats.  Their house is always impeccably clean so you wouldn’t know they have multiple cats until they let a few come out to play.  My sister has 2 cats and one makes her “home” under the sink in the guest bath.  I don’t know who was more surprised the first time I opened the cabinet door and saw her!

That’s why I love this stamp.  It’s from Impression Obsession and it’s appropriately called “Cat Nap.” I colored it with Copic markers and it’s easy, if not quick.  Other supplies I used were Impression Obsession die Instant Photo Frame (photo corners); sentiment from Wordsworth; Designer: Jenny Gropp

Penny-Black-WordsWe have big orders from Memory Box and Poppystamps, Penny Black and Penny Black coming in so stop in soon and shop.  Penny Black's scripty word dies have been extremely popular and we just got in their new "Words of Gratitude" die.  Isn't it gorgeous!!  Call or email me to reserve yours today.

FYI:  We have all 3 of the new holiday sets too. Here's a reminder of what they are:

Falling Leaves and Shade Trees

Hi friends.  The air is cooler and we've had lots of rain lately so it's beginning to fell like fall in the desert Southwest.  I really enjoy fall colors and leaves and trees and that's what I would like to share with you today.

Made in the Shade Cards

These samples are all made with Taylored Expressions Made in the Shade 2 stamp set and the coordinating Shade Tree die.  I sponged the fall background using Memento inks and jumbo daubers, and the Halloween background was sponged using the Taylored Expressions Cloud Border die as a cloud template. Images were colored with Copic markers.

I love the Apple Stacklets die set -- there are 7 dies in the set.  I made this largest die into a folding card.  If you want to see this technique in person, just stop in and ask.

Halloween Treat Toppers

Taylored Expression just released a new set of the very, very popular Treat Topper dies – this time for Halloween!  We have had Treat Toppers for Birthday, Christmas and Easter and they are so quick and fun to work with.  A 1¾” circle punch fits perfectly behind the topper die cut for a background and then you can mount it on any number of other die cut shapes.  I made these into bracket notecards, but they can easily be mounted on a treat bag, a cellophane treat tube (we have them!), lollipop covers or many other treat containers.  See the list of supplies I used for these little notecards below and we will be making one of these toppers in our Halloween card class on Saturday, September 27 at 2pm.

Most of the paper used on these cards is from the new Taylored Expressions Hocus Pocus paper set.

The Magnificent Merry Die

Hello Friends and thanks for reading today's blog.  First let me remind you that we have lots of classes coming up so be sure to check those out here.

Have you ever bought a stamp or a die and when you looked at it later thought "Why in the world did I buy that stamp or die???"  Well it happens to all of us including me -- except I buy 3 or 4 for the store!  That's how I felt when I unpacked the Poppystamps "Magnificent Merry" die -- I mean the name alone is a little off-putting!  But, I challenged myself to work with it and the more I did, the more I liked it.  In fact, it's a little addictive because once you cut "Merry" out of white and inlay it on red cardstock, you want to inlay the red on white cardstock, and so on and so on.  And there are many dies and stamps that will work in the space under the "Merry."  Pretty soon you have a lot of Christmas cards that are fun, impressive and very versatile.  See what you think.

Red-Globe-OrnamentMagnificent Merry Globe Ornament – Poppystamps die Magnificent Merry; Memory Box dies Small Globe Ornament, Ornament Hooks and Caps and Fabulous Holly Wreath; sentiment from Paper Smooches Christmas Sampler.

The new "Hooks and Caps" die will work with any ornament die -- I cut it out of gold mirrorcard for some shimmer!

Frosted-Spruce-TreeMagnificent Merry Spruce – Poppystamps die Magnificent Merry; Memory Box die Frosted Spruce Tree; Doodlebug enamel sprinkles star

I cut the Spruce tree out of white glitter cardstock.

Fremont-LandscapeMagnificent Merry Fremont Border – Poppystamps dies Fremont Pine Landscape and Magnificent Merry; Designer: Jean Manis

Red-GinghamSnowflake Arch: Red Gingham – Memory Box dies Snowflake Arch and Small Globe Ornament; Taylored Expressions die Snowflakes; Designer: Donna Sledzik

Here I used the same Globe Ornament that's shown in the first card above.  The die cuts a circle and a rim shown here in gold metallic cardstock.  The Snowflake Arch is bound to be very popular because it is gorgeous.  You can match it up with the coordinating solid arch die too for a background.

3-Ornaments3 Ornaments – Memory Box dies traditional Ornament, small Globe ornament, Curled Ribbons and Ornaments Hooks and Caps; Memory Box Stencil Snowflake Lace; sentiment stamps from Memory Box; Designer: Jean Okimoto

I cut the Globe ornaments from pink and blue and the traditional ornament from green then embossed all 3 using the Snowflake Lace stencil.  The hooks and caps and curcled ribbons are all cut from gold mirrorcard.

Frost-Spruce-BirdsFrosted Spruce & Red Birds – Memory Box Stencil Christmas Script Merry; Memory Box dies Frosted Spruce Tree and Resting Birds; Paper Smooches die Stars; Designer: Jean Okimoto

The birds are cut from red wool felt for a little added texture.

Stop in soon and see these samples and many, many more up close!

Labradoodle Cards

My friend and customer Jane recently showed me a card where designer Diane Barney had turned a labrador die cut into a standard poodle.  I immediately thought of my friend Maumi who along with her daughter have new poodles named Belle and Mr. Darcy.  Here are the cards I made.

  Belle Mr.-Darcy

I used Poppystamps dies Labrador, Poinsettia Bloom small (ear) and Classic Ribbons; Taylored Expressions die Falling for You (beret made from acorn top!); circle punches ⅛”, ¼” and 1”.  I also embossed the dogs with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.  Thanks Jane for showing me designer Diane Barney’s card.  It is so much fun to play with dies!

We've got lots of dies looking for good homes so come in and adopt a few!  See you soon!

Quick … I need a Birthday Card!

Upup_awaycuttingplateHow many times have you forgotten about a friend’s birthday until literally the last minute?  I know I have had to hurriedly search for an appropriate card more than once.  That’s one reason I love the new “Up, Up & Away” die from Taylored Expressions and the accompanying “In & Out Birthday” stamp set full of great birthday sentiments.  Because the die comes with 2 separate balloons it is super easy to cut the balloon frame from one color and the separate balloons from another at the same time.  Then just glue the balloons over the framed balloons and you are almost done.  You can use the balloons separate from the frame too, plus don’t think only birthday cards – see the thank you and Halloween cards below.  This is a great die and I had a lot of fun playing with it.

  In-Out-Birthday-stamps Doublethefunpaper

HocuspocusAnother reason these cards were quick to put together are the new papers that Taylored Expressions is now offering.  For most of these cards I used the new Double the Fun papers which come in a boy and girl color ways.  For the Halloween card I used the new Hocus Pocus papers. And I also used the brand new coordinating sequins from Taylored Expressions.

Party-Hats Red-Blue

Orange-GreenOther supplies I used on these cards: I embossed the black background on the Halloween card with Memory Box stencil Distressed Web.  The Thank You sentiment is from My Favorite Things Birthday greetings and it is stamped on Taylored Expressions die Band It.  The pink cloud background was made using Taylored Expressions die Cloud Border and pink ink, and the “curlies” were made using TE die Curly Border.  The Halloween card sentiment is from Impression Obsession clear stamp set Which Witch.  The party hats were made by cutting a 1” square into a triangle and decorating it with a border from the Memory Box die set Petite Cakes and a flower from Memory Box Primula Bloom.
