Texas-Flag-Weathered-WoodTexas Flag Weathered Wood – All supplies from Deadbeat Designs: Texas Flag die and Texas Word die; stamps: Weathered Wood, Bandana Background, The Eyes of Texas, Ornate Swirl and Texas Post; Tonic distressing tool and Memento ink London Fog; mini brads

Texas-Word-GlitterTexas Word Glitter – Deadbeat Designs dies Texas Word and Texas Trio; and Trail Ride stamp; Impression Obsession Wooden Plank Cover-a-Card background stamp; Ranger Stickles glitter glue Cinnamon

Happy-TrailsHappy Trails -- Deadbeat Designs die Texas Trio; Deadbeat Designs stamps Weathered Wood, Bandana Background, The Eyes of Texas, Ornate Swirl and Trail Ride stamps; Impression Obsession Wooden Plank Cover-a-Card background stamp; IO dies Alphabet Plain upper and lower case; Paper Smooches die Stars; corner punch

A Few Tips and Tricks

The wooden plan background was stamped in walnut ink Distress ink then watercolored with the same ink.  Just swipe your pad on a craft sheet or acrylic block and pick up the color with a watercolor brush.  Try not to make the color uniform – lighter in the center and darker on the edges looks great.  When finished, use heat tool to dry, flipping the paper over to heat the back will help prevent curling.

Use Tonic distress tool to rough up edges then distress edges with ink.

Mini brads are a masculine embellishment.

The Texas Word die is cut out of silver mirror cardstock.

For the glitter Texas card, I die cut the largest of the Texas Trio dies, stamped a scrap of off white cardstock with The Eyes of Texas script and taped it behind the Texas opening.  I outlines the opening with glitter glue then gently set the Texas Word die cut down on the glue.  Hold it in place a few minutes then set aside to dry.  Use a few drops of wet glue (Tombow Multi is my choice) behind the word die for added adherence.

Deadbeat’s Texas Flag die comes with the large Texas shape and the dies for the red and blue portions of the flag. To make a smaller Texas Flag I simply  die cut the largest of the Texas Trio (lg, med and sm Texas shapes) out of red, white and blue paper then followed the lines of the (larger) Texas Flag die and handcut the shapes.  Super easy!

Thelma’s Earring

Thelma-earringA good friend recently took a trip to China and she brought me a beautiful pair of jade earings.  Here’s the thank you card I made for her.

Deadbeat Designs stamp Thelma; Penny Black clear stamp set Kind Words.

“Thelma” could be saying anything – and Deadbeat Designs has some hilarious sentiments like “You’re never as young as you are today” and “you’re old … get over it!”  These stamps make a very funny and unexpected birthday card!

Sweet as Pie

LawnFawn-Happy-FeastOne of my neighbors presented me with a pie last week as an apology for her son’s mischief – no harm done but it was a teachable moment when she trotted him down to my house to say he was sorry.  The poor little boy was shaking so hard he could barely get the words out!  It really was touching and the pie was delicious!  Here’s the thank you card I made for her.

Lawn Fawn clear stamp set Happy Feast, Spellbinders die circles; Taylored Expressions Tag Stacklets; My Favorite Things Gingham background stamp; Bo Bunny doily; Doodlebug enamel sprinkles

Here’s a really cute card made with TE’s new City Skyline die and “Light up the Night” stamp set.  The key to this card is the Lots of Pops pop-up platform die from Elizabeth Crafts Designs.  Once you die cut the platform, just mount your balloons on strips of acetate (use old packaging) and tape these between the skyline and the platform.  Use this same concept with cupcakes, fruit or veggies (!!) or butterflies!

Christmas in June Sale

This week I have a variety of cards to share with you.  We have just gotten in new stamps and dies from many companies so I had a lot of new goodies to play with.

Came-Saw-FixedFirst, Father’s Day is this weekend and whether you are sending cards to Dad, husband, brother or even guy friends, we’ve got something for everyone.  New from Taylored expressions is the Pegboard die and All the Fixings stamp and die combo set.  I have made 3 different cards: Father’s Day, Birthday and Thank you – to show you this set can be used all year long.  Plus it can easily be used for more feminine cards – more on that later. Some of the greetings in the stamp set are a little distressed (it’s not bad stamping!!!).  Notice how you can personalize a card using alphabet dies!

  Fathers-day Ron-B-Day

Taylored Expressions die Pegboard; TE stamp and die set All the Fixings; Impression Obsession die Typewriter Alphabet upper case; Krylon Silver Leafing pen; sticky-back canvas; Die Cuts with a View self-adhesive cork; Eyelet Outlet Screw brads

Glitter-BalloonsJune is my month for birthdays – I have about a dozen friends and family celebrating this month.  Here’s a fun card using an idea from Jennifer McGuire.  It’s really pretty simple once you lay it out so it’s a good one for multiples.

Balloons – Penny Black die Uplifting (balloons) and Hooray; Die Cuts with a View glitter paper pad

Bicycle-on-WoodI love this bicycle stamp and coordinating die set from Impression Obsession.I plan to make more cards using it because it lends itself to so many interpretations.

Bicycle on Wood Background – Impression Obsession clear stamp set Riding Pretty with coordinating die set; Hero Arts Woodgrain Background stamp; twine, button, decorative paper and Copic markers

The Poppystamps Bailiwick background die is fabulous.  It’s big so it instantly becomes the focal point on the card and can be used by itself or in combination with other dies like the Impression Obsession Large Fence die.  Adhering it with glue (I use Tombow Multi) is pretty fast and easy; popping it up takes more time bit I love the dimension.

Bailiwick-BlueBailiwick with Fence – Poppystamps die Bailiwick Background; Memory Box die Butterfly Delights; Impression Obsession Large Fence
