What a LSS Really "Sells"

Blue-TanBefore I show you some new samples, I would like to thank all of you for shopping at The Stamp Act for so many years.  We are about to celebrate our 13th anniversary in business which for a small business is truly amazing!  Your support and patronage of this store has made it all possible and I really appreciate it.  Over these past 14 years we have seen paper crafting trend from stamps to dies and simple images to much more layered looks.  One of my most important roles is to be aware of trends and new products, and to not only sell those products but to educate customers on how to use them.  This education is really the heart of what a locally-owned stamp store (LSS) offers.  While I can’t always offer the discounts of the big box stores, when you buy a product from me you know that I will take the time to show you how to use it and to answer any questions you may have … that day or a month or year later.

Another customer service a LSS can offer is special orders.  Big box stores offer whatever the home office in some far-away city sends them.  I am happy to special order products for customers at any time.

My friend Alma, owner of The Cat’s Pajamas, wrote this about her local stamp store:

At my LSS I not only buy stamps and papers and dies, but I get many other things that can't be purchased at any big box stores or even online: Knowledge, Companionship, and the excitement that comes along when someone else shares the same bit of madness I do. ('Cause let's face it, where else can I get a full on encyclopedia's worth of knowledge about the differences in ink?) Not at the big box stores.

Where can I get ideas and new techniques that the gals at the stamp store have just "discovered"? Where can I get classes to get my creative juices going?

And these stores aren't run by a big corporation, they are run by families and friends. They ARE what the TV calls "the local economy". And unlike so many big corporations, they spend their money in the US, keeping jobs in the US, just when we need them most.

I am so lucky to have places that can do all these things that big box stores can't do. So I'll happily keep shopping at my LSS because they are worth so much more than that Michael's 40% off one item coupon.

To thank you for your years of patronage, we’re having a HUGE Sale!

It’s time for more “spooky” Halloween samples!  I love combining stamps and dies from various companies and seeing the final result.  The legend of Sleepy Hollow has always captivated me because of my New England heritage so when I saw these stamps from Impression Obsession I had to have them.  The card is an easy one to put together and the coloring goes quickly.  The best part is that inside it says “Don’t Lose your Head.”  Isn’t that too much – love it!!!

Hint:  The little bottle was clear and to “color” it I first put some Walnut Ink crystals in it and added some water and shook it up.  Then I poured most of that mixture out and added some medium brown Copic re-inker and shook that up.  Be sure to wrap the bottle in a paper towel because the cork top is not water tight – ask me how I know!!!!  Drain most of that mixture and put the top back on and tap down tightly.  Add a little ribbon, make a label on the computer and mount the bottle to your card with scor tape.

Another update on our very popular Envelope Punch Board:  I have another shipment coming Friday, 9/20.  Don’t miss out!  Great holiday present for fellow papercrafters.  Every person that has made an envelope with this board has bought one – it’s such a popular item!

Stop in soon and see what’s new – I guarantee you will see something you have to have!

My Favorite Things Primitive Pumpkins

Stamp-setI bought this stamp set last year because I love the vintage look of the 3 little pumpkins in the set.  But the set is chock-a-block full of stamps that are good for both Halloween and Fall paper crafting.  Let me share a few samples made with this stamp set and the coordinating pumpkin die set.

The supplies I used on these cards are:  MFT Primitive Pumpkins clear stamp set; MFT Primitive Pumpkins die set; MFT Calendar Basics clear stamp set; Taylored Expressions Banner Stacklets; MFT Peek-a-Boo Trio; MFT Fancy Flourish small die; Spellbinders Tag Trio die; Spellbinders Labels 21 die; Darice embossing folder Scroll.

Impression Obsession Halloween

I was inspired to make these samples by some I saw on the IO Blog.

Green-Purple-GrungeI love some of the new stamps from IO Stamps -- the new Grunge Circles are fabulous!  Here I stamped them in Colorbox Lime pigment ink and embossed them in clear.  The "31" stamp is from IO Stamps' new "Have Broom Will Travel" clear stamp set.  I colored it with Copic markers and cut it out with my old Fiskars "stamp" edge scissors.  I added a few purple enamel sprinkles from Doodlebug on a hand cut purple banner.

Grey-GrungeWhen my friend Jane saw this card she thought I used decorative paper for the background.  But we're stampers so let's stamp our backgrounds!  I stamped the Grunge Circles in Memento London Fog and then stamped the new Splatter 2 in black.  The sentiment is from the "Have Broom Will Travel" clear stamp set.  A little black twine and a green button complete the card.

MB-FrameLove this card.  Yes, there's a lot going on, but it's really not hard to put together.  The background is the new IO stamp "The Raven Poem."  The sentiment is called "Happily Haunted" from IO Stamps and it is stamped on the Memory Box Mansfield Frame die set. This frame set comes with 4 different pieces and you see 3 here: the frame with openings stenciled in orange; the black mat; and the white sentiment.  I added the IO Die Branch and Birdbath as well as a few Candi Dots.

Please stop in an see all the new stamps and dies for Halloween, Fall and Christmas!  Thanks for reading!
