June 2011

Stair Step and Shutter Cards

Step up your cardmaking with this fun class (Saturday, July 2 at 2pm). We will make two cards using the new Inner and Outer Stair Step pre-scored cards. These cards come in a package of 10 cards (with envelopes), 2 each of 5 bright colors. Learn how to easily decorate and embellish these cards which will surely impress! To decorate the "Inner Stairs" card, we will use die cut flowers from felt and a Friendship clear stamp set from Impression Obsession. The Happy Birthday card is a sample of the "Outer Stairs" pre-scored card. Most of the stamps I used are from Hero Arts. The polka-dotted tag is from Impression Obsession. These cards easily fold down to a typical A2 card size (4¼" x 5½").

Shutter Card with Presentation Box

This is "over-the-top" colorful card is sure to make everyone smile! Its bright colors and fun design will make this accordion-fold card a wonderful home dec piece for the summer. I used papers from Kaisercraft's Bubblegum Hills collection (6" x 6" paper pad) and stamps and dies cuts from The Cat's Pajamas, a few dies from Spellbinders, and two border punches from Martha Stewart. In addition to making the card we will make a presentation box (for the card) complete with pinwheel that turns! This class will be Saturday, July 9 from 10am to 3pm with a break for lunch. I hope you will join us!

Just Because it's Summer!

Summer is here and although in the Southwest that means high heat with no break for months, I am trying to concentrate on the good parts of summer like lots of fresh fruit. My apple tree is filled with apples and occasionally I spy one or two half eaten apples casually tossed on the backyard lawn by the friendly squirrel who lives there! My pear tree is also filled with small yellow green pears and I can't wait for August when I can bite into the sweet, juicy fruit! YUMMY!

While I wait for the real fruit to ripen, I made cards this week with new "Berrylicious" papers from Imaginisce. I gathered all my fruit stamps, sayings and dies and went crazy with these cute and colorful papers. For the "Cherry Day" card, the sentiment is from Copper Leaf Creations and the cherries die cut is from Spellbinders.

Inky Antics “Honey Pop” Dimensional Cards

Saturday, June 11 both our classes will focus on the fun and unique cards called "Honey Pop." Honey Pop refers to the honeycomb paper that we will use to make dimensional, pop-out images inside the cards. The cute clear stamps sets come with the images that are stamped on the honeycomb paper. It is really easy to create these cards once you "get the hang of it!" Please join us for this fun class and stop in to check out the samples.

The Cat's Pajamas

Last week I had a ball making cards with the new stamps and dies of The Cat's Pajamas (TCP). TCP's clear stamp sets are chock full of creative stamps that feature bunnies, bears and birds. Their dies include a pinwheel (2 sizes); a rosette that's easy and actually works (not like the Tim Holtz die that I could never get to stay together); and many others from grass to a large scallop to a bird/birdhouse and musical note combo. For the card on the left I used a set called "What a Blast" and the large pinwheel die.

For this card I also used the large pinwheel and mounted it on a lollipop stick (available here). See the background? That's a new Hero Arts stamps called "Graph Background." I am loving it because it is the perfect stamp to grab whenever you need a little something extra in the background. Hero "Envelope Pattern" background lends a similar look. The grass on this card is created with another TCP die (Grass) so adding that touch to your cards is also quick and easy.

Let me show you some of the other cards I created with these versatile and fun stamps and dies:

"What a Blast" and pinwheel die "Field of Pinwheels" and pinwheel die Birthday Bunny

All these cards use the stamp set "The Tweetest Things" and the die "Home Tweet Home."

I hope you will stop in soon and see these products and lots more. We are packed with wonderful products for fun stamping!

6 Tags Over Texas

6 Tags Over Texas

My-6-Tags This Saturday (June 4) let’s get patriotic about Texas and make tags that depict what we love about our home state.  This set of tags framed in a 7 Gypsies shadow box frame makes a handsome wall hanging – think Father’s Day!  The tags are all created with stamps from Deadbeat Designs.  We will 3 or 4 in the morning and in the afternoon classes so call me (915-833-9500) to register.  I look forward to having you in class!  To learn more about this class please click here.

Inky Antics “Honey Pop” Cards – Saturday, June 11

Unfortunately my order for the stamps and supplies to make these darling dimensional pop-up cards was lost so instead of being delivered last week, it is scheduled to arrive Friday.  A board with samples will come with the order so if you stop in this weekend or next week you can see the sample cards we will make.  Please sign up for this class – “honey pop” is such a unique concept that I think the classes will fill up fast.  Keep checking here for more information.

Bees-Flowers-Ladybugs Pink-Blooms

If you’ve checked the class page on our website (click here) for June 18 you know I am going to the Antiques Roadshow that day.  My sister is coming to visit and we will be taking some of our “treasures” to be appraised.  I thought I would close all day, but I just got my tickets and my time is 4pm.  Therefore I am going to have free make and takes in the store from 10am to 2pm that day.  Stop in and make one of these delightful cards.

Just Rite Stampers – Saturday, June 25 morning

Family-Garden-1 Family-Garden-2  New stamps from Just Rite?  Yes!  Both their cling and original lines continue to grow.  I will teach a class on Saturday morning, June 25 with two new cling sets: Family Garden and Vintage Oval Labels.  The large stamps in the Vintage Ovals set match Spellbinders Labels 6 and Labels 13 dies while the flower in the family Garden set matched Spellbinders Blossom 3 dies.  Each set has lots of stamps that are perfect for adding little touches of color and creativity to your stamped projects.  To get all the information on this class please click here.

Memory Box – Saturday, June 25 afternoon

Tickets-Please Keepsake I really enjoyed playing with all the wonderful new products from Memory Box’s new “Valise” line.  Two of the new shabby chic papers are printed with tickets and frames that will spark endless creativity; and the other two are perfect backgrounds.  I simply cut out the tickets and frames, gathered my favorite Memory Box stamps and started creating tags.  The new Memory Box dies cut very well and add just the right touch to the cards. Once the tags were done I mounted them using other Memory Box stamps to create pockets.  What fun!  I made 13 cards before I knew it!  I will feature 4 of these cards in an upcoming class on Saturday afternoon, June 25 so be sure to join us!  Let me show you the samples we will make in that class along with the other sample cards I created.  To get more information on this class please click here.

Blast Hello  What fun these new stamps and dies are!  Whether it’s the Bear or the Bunny, it’s sure to bring a smile to your face when you see holding them holding a pinwheel!  The pinwheel is easy to make and actually spins.  The die also has a smaller pinwheel.  I am working on more samples so stay tuned!  Lots of fun and perfect for cheering up friends!
