Birthdays and Cupcakes!

Banner-Card This Saturday, May 28, our classes will focus on fun cards for birthdays and sweet cards featuring cupcakes!  Most of the birthday cards are created using various stamps from Hero Arts while the cupcake cards are all made with one et from Stampendous.  Everyone needs lots of birthday cards so this is a perfect time to come and increase your stash while learning a few fun techniques.  For the card on the left I used Hero Arts Graph Background (which I love); Friendly Flags; and Sending Smiles Messages.

For more information on these classes please go here.  Let me show you the samples from the Birthday Card class:

Flower-Card

This card uses the Hero Flower Pattern Lg Background and the cling set Friends are Treasures.  The flower is created with a Just Rite Cling set called "Friendship Blooms."  I will show you how to stamp and fold this flower.

Hooray-Ticket-outside

Hooray-Ticket-inside For this card I stamped the ticket from the Hero Life of the Party clear set on pink and green papers and cut them out.  The decorative paper is Pink Paislee "Soiree" and the borders (the reverse side) are cut with the Martha Stewart edge punch Double Scallop.  I stamped the inside of the card with sentiments from Hero's "Hip Hip Hooray" clear stamp set.

Typewriter

This card is perfect for the guy on your birthday card list.  I used Hero's "Just My Type" clear stamp set, paper from MME Home Sweet Home Collage (both sides).

Hey-there-cupcake As I mentioned above, for the Cupcake Card class we will use one clear stamp set from Stampendous.  This innovative set lets you mix and match the bottom, the top and the decorations on your cupcakes for infinite possibilities!  Here’s a peek at the cupcake cards – so cute!!!

What’s New at The Stamp Act

Orchid-Branch-Birthday Memory Box stamps and Dies and the new Valise paper collection – more about this in an upcoming blog – suffice to say I am totally addicted to all the new goodies!  The card on the left shows the Orchide Branch stamped then die cut with the matching die.  It's mounted on the new Valise papers!  Love them!

The Cat’s Pajamas stamps and dies – cute and very creative.  I haven’t had time to play with them yet but will soon!

Tim Holtz – Kraft-colored glassine envelopes ATC size; New dies: mini bird and cage, mini leaf and branch, and his old jalopy

Family-Garden-2 Just Rite Stampers – Many of the popular cling sets are back in stock plus new cling sets Family Garden and Vintage Ovals.  Also we have these new interlocking sets in stock: Sending You Sunshine (2” round), Birthday Centers (1 5/8” round) and Butterfly Garden (3¼“ round).  More about these sets in a future blog post.  The card on the left uses the new Family garden set.

Hottest Products at The Stamp Act

Jennifer's-Invitation-2 May is the month for graduations and since this year my niece graduated from college and my nephew graduated from high school, May meant I was busy making graduation announcements.   Jennifer wanted something whimsical and fun so I designed the card around the Spellbinder Owl die.  Fortunately the Quickutz grad cap and scroll die cuts were just the right size for the owl!  For the background I used a woodgrain background stamp (JudiKins) and the branch and leaves are also Quickutz dies.  The sentiment is from Stampendous.

Jonathan-Announcment For Jonathan’s announcements I used a Penny Black stamp which I stamped twice in Memento Potter’s Clay.  Then I stamped the one figure in Versafine Majestic Blue, cut it out and popped it up.  The “medallion” was stamped with the Just Rite tiny alphabet and cut with Spellbinders circle dies.

To congratulate the new graduates I made this card in their school colors.  I saw this idea on Sue Nelson’s blog and couldn’t resist the darling stamp (Penny Black) and the play on words.  I carried the theme inside with the sentiment “Have an Udderly Wonderful Day!” from Copper Leaf Creations.

Hear-to-Heart-set Heart-to-Heart-Thank-You I had another challenge this week.   The sales manager at Just Rite stamps sent me some new stamp sets to try out and I wanted to thank him using one of the sets.  Because the names of the sets he sent me are “Heart to Heart” and “Hugs to You” I thought I might have a hard time!  I started by choosing some appropriately masculine papers then stamped the frame and cut it out with Spellbinders Labels 18.  The “Thank You” sentiment was popped up inside the frame and this whole piece was mounted on a coordinating paper die cut with Labels 17 then embossed with a Quickutz embossing folder.  I was happy with the result which I feel shows off the stamps in an appropriately masculine way.

“Dies” are hot!  The hottest trend in stamping is die cutting.  Of course you all know I am pretty much obsessed with Spellbinders dies, but now it’s the smaller stamp companies that are creating dies to either match or coordinate with their stamps.  In the next few weeks we will be receiving stamps and dies from two of our favorite companies: Memory Box and Cat’s Pajamas.  The dies are reasonably priced and very creative.  Let me show you some examples from Laura Fulcher’s blog for Memory Box – you can check it out at http://davebrethauer.typepad.com/colorwhimsy.
