November 2010

Copic Certification Class

I have just learned that this Saturday, November 20, there will be a Copic Marker Certification class here in El Paso at the Fairfield Inn, 7514 Remcon Circle.  You can find all the information at http://copicmarker.com/certification/.  The public is eligible to attend but everyone must submit an application and be accepted by the Copic Marker instructor.  If you are interested please go to the website shown above and scroll down to the “Upcoming Certification Sessions.”  Then scroll down to El Paso and click on Details and Application.  The class will last all day and costs $120.  Please feel free to call me if you have questions.

Because of the Copic class Saturday, there will be no classes on Saturday.  However, I will teach a class Sunday at 1pm to 3pm – Vintage Christmas Cards with new Tim Holtz Stamps and Dies.  I will post the samples as soon as they are made, but I think you will enjoy them!!!

New Samples

Labels-8-Flowers The new Memory Box stamps and papers continue to inspire me and here are two more samples.  The first card is elegant and combines Memory Box paper that I die cut with Spellbinders Labels 8.  I then cut coordinating cardstock with the same Labels 8 die and matted the first die cut with my signature “skinny borders.”  I then stamped “Happy Holidays” with Versamark and embossed it in white.  This I attached to a frame (Tattered Angels Framed Fonts) which I distressed slightly with tea Dye Distress Ink.  I mounted the frame to the bottom of the die cut piece, threading burgundy ribbon behind it and tying a bow.  Then I added a pearl flourish starting behind the frame.  This piece was mounted on an A6 (4 ½” x 6¼”) off white card which I stamped with Hero Arts Old Letter Writing stamp in Memento Angel Pink ink.  So pretty!

Birch-Trees-Blue For my next card I used several Memory Box stamps.  The background is the Peace Collage stamped twice in Memento Bahama Blue ink.  I stamped the birch tree stamp in Versamark ink and embossed it in white on white cardstock.  Then I applied Bahama Blue ink using a jumbo dauber.  I used Design Adhesives for the bird (which I foiled in red) and for the snowflakes ( which I glittered in crystal and silver).  Finally I added the sentiment and some red ribbon.  The colors are so crisp and clear – it’s really impressive!

Gift Card or Money Card

Jeans-Pocket-money-card If you’re giving money or gift cards this holiday season, this card is perfect!  The Jeans Pocket is a “oldie but a goody” image from Judikins.  Ink it in Memento Danube Blue and stamp it on white cardstock.  Repeat.  Cut out one image in total and only the pocket from the other image.  Distress both with Tea Dye or Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  Use a border punch to add some decoration to the pocket (or use the new self-adhesive lace from Hero Arts!) and add two brads in the pocket’s corners.  Attach the pocket with ⅛” Scor Tape. Cut slits in the belt loops and add some ribbon.  Just add money or a gift card!  Easy and fun for you and the recipient!

Please check the website for Sunday’s class!!!  Samples coming soon!!

Sat, Nov 13, 25 to 4pm– Christmas Cards with Glitz, Glam and Glitter

Candy-cane-bird-design-adhe Saturday afternoon I will show you how to make Christmas cards using Memory Box stamps and matching design adhesives.  Design adhesives are double sided stickers that can be applied over the matching stamp and then embellished with flocking, foil, glitter, mica powders or gold leaf.  In the card on the left, I applied the design adhesive over the scarf and flocked it with red flocking. There are many possibilities and they are all fun and really cool!  Join us for this fun class.  For more information go to http://stampactelpaso.com/classes/November2010.html or call Polly at 915-833-9500.  Here are the other cards for the class:

Using Your Spellbinders Dies Creatively

Hi friends.  Yes, it’s been a while since I blogged.  I have been so busy keeping up with classes and merchandise arriving daily there’s just been no time to stop and share.  But today’s the day!  Let me show you first the samples for this Saturday’s classes.

Sat, Nov 6, 10am to Noon – Using Dies Creatively

Snowmen-Egg Just because Halloween is over, don’t put your dies Halloween away – you may find a another use for them if you just look at them creatively!  I will show you how to use completely unrelated dies to make 3 Christmas cards and one very funny Thanksgiving card.   The Santa card is one that my friend Carol Love inspired.  I was actually going to use the die (Labels 14) to make a sleigh, but Carol looked at it and saw Santa – and was she right!  The turkey was designed by Angela Barkhouse, but I added the “Eat Ham!” sign using the new Myriad font set from Just Rite Stampers.  Mas Tree was designed using the Candy Corn die and the snowmen card uses the Egg die!  How fun!  Please join us this Saturday to make these cute cards.

Sat, Nov 6, 2 to 4pm – Christmas Tags

Poinsettia-TagWrapping presents is always a last minute chore for me, but this year I am determined to be ready ahead of time with hand stamped tags for each gift.   In this fun class you will make a dozen tags and take them home is a handy little plastic box.  I used a variety of papers, dies, stamps and punches and you’ll have fun adding ribbons and glitter to embellish them further.  Here are just a few of the tags -- check the website at http://stampactelpaso.com to see all the samples.

Party Favor Boxes

Pumpkin-1 Pumpkin-1-top This is a box that Sharon Harnist designed.  I was instantly intrigued by the box and my intrigue quickly turned into addiction!  I would suggest using these little boxes for party favors or place cards at Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner; for hostess gifts; or for presenting a very special little Christmas present.  Let me show you all the ones I made:

 Fall-boxes  Pumpkin, Pear, Apple, Leaf
Poinsettia-Tree Poinsettia and Tree on Lacey Squares

Mitten-Reindeer Mitten and Reindeer on Labels 3

Candy-Corn  Bat Candy Cane and Bat

If you want to know how to make these boxes, you can take our class “Decorations for Home and Table” on Sat, Nov 13 at 10am or stop in anytime on Friday, Nov 26 (day after Thanksgiving) and make one for only $5.

Sat, Dec 4, 10am to 4pm – Reindeer Riddles Book

Cleanest-Antlers Which reindeer has the cleanest antlers?  Why it's Comet of course!  When I saw the reindeer clear stamps by Our Craft Lounge, I knew I had to make a book packed with riddles about Santa’s ever popular reindeer friends.  It will make a great family holiday keepsake or special gift to friends and family.  The class will start at 10am and we will break for lunch and finish around 4pm.  Already I have several people registered so please reserve your spot soon (and please register by Tuesday, November 30).  The book has 10 pages counting the front and back covers.  The jokes are aimed more at adults than kids but everyone will get a kick out of it!  Here are photos of a few more pages:

What’s New at The Stamp Act

Die-Snowman Another task consuming my time recently was working on my website.   I am proud to say that after hours and hours of clicking and typing, the website is updated – be sure to check out the updated What’s New Section at http://stampactelpaso.com/whatsnew.html.  There’s a lot of information there.  For instance if you want to see all the 2010 Spellbinders Dies you can see all of them on this page.  I added a “Miscellaneous” section at the beginning so you can see some of the interesting things coming into the store.  And please click on the Tim Holtz button in the left column because I have (finally!) added photos and text about all his new dies and other products.  And most of them are in stock now!

Grand-Calibur-Machine One new product in the store is the new Spellbinders Grand Calibur Die Cutting machine.  I LOVE it!  Yes, it is large but it has a convenient integrated top handle which makes it portable and convenient to use anywhere.  The Grand Calibur has a platform of 8½” x 11” so you can cut many dies at once which is a real time saver.  The best feature of the Grand Calibur is its very large, ergonomically designed handle for “cranking” paper through the machine.  Unlike the Wizard, the Grand Calibur is almost silent as the plates move through the machine.   The machine also has a stability base that keeps it in place during use.  And I love the color coded plates which make it so easy to stack your plates correctly.

The Grand Calibur accepts 8½ x 11” paper without trimming, as well as cuts and embosses up to 8¼” wide with the turn of a handle.  The Grand Calibur will cut and emboss all of Spellbinders dies plus the new Grand Nestabilities shapes which are quite large and offer endless possibilities for scrapbooking, school projects, mini albums and more!  The machine is also compatible with Sizzlets, Cuttlebug, and Quickuts dies, as well as Cuttlebug Embossing Folders and Fiskars Texture Plates.

Stop in for a demo anytime!
