June 2010

Upcoming Classes at The Stamp Act

Hello friends.   Yes it’s been a while since I blogged.  I’ve been busy getting classes ready and checking in exciting new merchandise.  Plus it’s been over a hundred degrees here for the last 2 weeks and more of the same is predicted for the foreseeable future!  That always slows me down and makes me want to rush home in the evening to my much cooler house.

Book-and-cards So today let me share with you samples from upcoming classes.  First, this weekend we will repeat our very popular “Stitched with Love” class.  We had 10 attendees the first time we offered this class and I have just a few spots open for this Saturday’s class.  Please call me to register soon.

Dreams-take-flightSing Saturday afternoon we are “Going to the Birds!”  All the cards in this class have birds as the focal image.  We will be using some seldom used products and lots of techniques to make several lovely cards.  I hope you can join us!  Here are some other samples:

We will be closed Friday through Monday, July 2 through 5 for a little vacation time, but our full schedule of classes continues throughout the summer starting on Saturday, July 10.  Lotus-Frame The saying “Everything old is new again” is often proven true in stamping.  Many of us were sad when Luminarte shut down and we couldn’t get their very popular shimmery watercolor paints any longer.  Fortunately, “Twinkling H2O’s,” are now being produced by another company.  I have ordered four basic sets and on Sat, July 10 at 10am we will be Coloring with Twinkling H2O’s!  In this class you will learn how to use these paints to give sparkle and shine to three original cards then you will discover nifty ways to showcase your painted designs using Spellbinders dies especially border dies.  Be watching the website and the blog for more cards with that very special shine!

Hero-Bird-in-Circle Penny-Black-Mixed-Media Sat, July 10 (2 to 4pm) I have created several cards that have that very popular Vintage Look.  We will use stamps from Penny Black and Hero Arts (see card above left: Circle Bird) and of course lots of distressing!  You can see all the cards by visiting our website at

http://stampactelpaso.com/July2010.html and going to July 10 classes.  The card above right was inspired by one by Tosh on her blog. Here are two other samples:

Die-Cut-Circle-Butterfly The other class I have finished preparing is a Die Cutting Workshopscheduled for Sat, July 24 at 10am.  I have sold a lot of die cut machines recently so I thought a class with hands-on die cutting with your own machine would be a good learning tool for some and “memory-jogger” for others.  I even learned something new while preparing for this class!  Bring your EPIC 6, Wizard or Cuttlebug machine and get a really comprehensive review of die cutting and embossing!   On the card (left) I used Spellbinder scallop circle and butterfly dies and stamps from AMuse.  Check out the cards I designed to showcase various die cutting and embossing techniques at http://stampactelpaso.com/July2010.html.

Just a little side note.  Every time I teach a class, someone makes a comment about learning something new.  Some stampers love buying the latest and greatest, but they really don’t know how to use it.  Other stampers are caught in a time warp of “yesteryear” where they are still using the same, old techniques they learned when they first started stamping.  For a minimal investment of time and money, I guarantee you will learn new techniques with lots of products many of which you already own!  Plus, don’t forget you get a 10% discount on anything you buy over $10 on class day!

Stop in soon and see what’s new in the store.  During these difficult economic times we need your support and loyalty more than ever.  Thanks for stopping by today and please come see us soon!

Change in Scheduled Classes

Circles Hi friends.  Yesterday I pointed out that we would have no classes on Saturday, June 12.  That has changed.  The memorial service for my friend will be another day so we will have classes on June 12.  In the morning (10am to noon) I will teach four cards made with Spellbinders new Big Scallop Dies.  These oversize scalloped edged dies really give presence to your focal images!  Come and learn how to use these dies to showcase your stamped images. Here are some more samples from the class:

Venice June 12 from 2 to 4pm, I will teach the Sticky Back Canvas class that I will also teach on June 19.  I hope that’s not too confusing!  Just visit the website at www.stampactelpaso.com/classes to see the schedule of all classes.

Dreams-take-flight On June 26 (2 to 4pm), I will teach a class I am calling “Going to the Birds!”  I will use new techniques and new products with birds as the focal image of each card.  Pure fun!

Just a quick note about products.  If you’re looking for Tim Holtz products we will have his embossing folders in stock this Friday and the rest of his new hardware and embellishments as of next Tuesday.  Shop here first!

New Classes Coming Up!

Cover Hi friends.  Sorry it’s been a while since I blogged, but it’s been a busy couple of weeks.  We had a huge turnout for the Stitched with Love class and it took a week to put together the set-ups for the class.  If you missed this very popular and fun class, you can attend the encore presentation on Saturday, June 26 from 10am to 1pm.  In the class we make a presentation folder (you won’t believe how easy it is once you know the secret!!) and three cards that fit inside.   Please sign up early!

Splendid-Adventure This weekend, Saturday, June 5, we have two great classes.  Just in time for the upcoming father’s day, our morning class will feature four cards made with the new Graphic 45 Proper Gentlemen line of papers, tags and borders.  I made 8 cards with this paper – and had many more ideas!  It is always good to have some good “guy” cards on hand so why not come and make a few?  Let me show you more of the samples I made.

Book-and-Tin Saturday afternoon (June 5) we will make a project using another line of Graphic 45 paper called Botanicabella.  We will decorate a small ATC (Artist Trading Card) size tin box then fill it with an ATC-size accordion book.  The papers are stunning and the whole project is very vintage and very beautiful.  For more information on these classes, please visit our website at http://stampactelpaso.com/June2010.html.  To register, just give me a call at 833-9500.

Here’s an important note:  Saturday, June 12 there will be no classes.  A dear friend’s husband died suddenly and the memorial service is that day.  The store will be open and Jeri will be teaching a FREE make and take.  So come in and shop and make a cute project.  I will have more details on the make and take in a few days!

Dogwood June 19 (10am) Kathi Anderson will be teaching a metal class.  You will learn how to stamp on pewter then work it with metal-working tools.  Kathi is a very knowledgeable and patient instructor so if you want to expand how you use your stamps register for that class now!

Canvas-Flowers-Dahlia Stamping-on-canvas June 19 (2pm) I will teach a workshop with some of Claudine Helmuth’s (Ranger) new products including sticky back canvas, acrylic paints and multi mediums.  You will learn how to paint and die cut the canvas as well as how to transfer decorative papers to the canvas.  I will also explain a lot of other techniques that you can use with these products.  I know you will love the canvas once you start working with it!
