March 2010

Cross Collection Samples and much more!

Black-White-Cross White-Cross Hello friends.   As you know Easter is this weekend and I finally found time to make some samples with the new Cross Collection from Spellbinders.   These crosses are designed beautifully with lots of handsome embossed detail.  You can stack them together for one look or use them separately for another look.  The sample on the left shows the crosses stacked on a dramatic background of black and white.  The flourish stamp is from Inkadinkado.  The sample on the right (design by Sue Nelson) is executed in all white and uses just the largest cross.  I use two embossing folders (Swiss Dots and Victoria) and cut the oval opening with a Spellbinders Petite Oval die).  And don’t think of these crosses as just for Easter; I have some wonderful Baptism decorative paper coming and the crosses will be perfect for that occasion too.

Dogwood-Sympathy Damask-Sympathy I had to make two sympathy cards recently.  For my female friend, I used the new dogwood stamp from Hero Arts and stamped it on Hero’s new Eggshell cardstock using Worn Lipstick distress ink.  I stamped the With Sympathy (Rubber Moon) in Memento Rich Cocoa.  The border is die cut with one of the Spellbinders Pierceabilities Fancy Scallop dies.  I mounted the central image on Hero Carnation cardstock.  For my male friend I chose grey cardstock which I stamped in Versamark Dazzle Frost ink with a damask stamp from Memory Box.  I stamped the same sympathy stamp in Versafine Onyx black ink.  Damask-Thank-You As a variation on the same design, I made a thank you card using the new Cappa Flourish and a thank you stamp (both from Memory Box).  As a final touch I added metallic décor in silver to the corners.

Violets Dogwood This weekend’s classes are all about coloring.  Saturday morning I will teach Coloring with Copic Markers using three new stamps from Hero Arts.  Birdhouse You will learn about the markers themselves; how to blend using two or three similar colors; and how to remove color using the blender pen.  I will have some helpful handouts for you too.

Fuchsia Single-Flower

Saturday afternoon I will teach Coloring Solid Images using new Penny Black floral stamps.  Don’t be stumped by solid images because there are many ways to add lots of color to bold stamps.  Come and learn how!  Here are some more cards using these new stamps from Penny Black.

Tulips Daisies-Oval Dreams-come-true Daisy-Tag-in-Holder Bamboo

Round-Butterfly 3D-Butterfly My friend Laura purchased three new stamps from Hampton Arts and left them with me to make samples.  The first stamp is a single butterfly in a circle -- a simple stamp but one that adds a lot of punch to this card.  The second stamp is a beautiful bold butterfly collage.   I decided to use the 3D technique with Spellbinders Labels 3 dies.  I stamped each layer in a different Memento ink color then die cut them with successively larger Labels 3 dies.  The 3D image is mounted on green and floral paper from the new Basic Grey Green at Heart collection.  Monogram-Card-3 Speaking of Green at Heart, here's another sample I made using that collection: very colorful!

Update on New Tim Holtz Products

Many of you have asked about the new Tim Holtz hardware products that recently debuted at CHA Winter.  I have them all on order straight from the manufacturer and as soon as they are available I will have them.  They are supposed to ship in March and April, but I believe they are running behind (as usual!) so look for them next month.  His new On the Edge dies, Movers and Shapers Dies, and Textures Fades Embossing Folders are also on order and should also arrive early next month.  Please let me know if you are interested in these items and I am happy to hold them for you when they arrive.

Easter Fun Samples

Chicks-Rule Happy-Easter-Bunny Thanks for stopping by today.  Easter will be here very soon so let me share some quick samples I made using the darling new Spellbinders Easter Fun die set and their new Easter Petite Border set.  Easter-Basket-Bag-Topper The Easter Fun set includes the bunny, chick, basket, flower and egg dies.  The egg is a little funky – it has legs! – and since I wanted "normal" eggs, I simply clipped them off!  I even die cut the bunny and the chick from some white flocked paper we sell for an authentic fuzzy feel and look!  You can also make really cute bag toppers with these dies. The chick paper (above) and the Easter paper on the topper are from TPC Studio (ANW Crestwood).

Easter-Border-Rabbit I love the Easter border set.  For the card on the left I die cut an "egg" using an oval die.  I die cut the border from paper by Reminisce (pink dots) then pierced the holes.  I turned over the part that was cut off the bottom of the border and adhered it (the stripes) to the pink dot border.  The border was mounted on a companion paper. The chick is from the Easter Fun set (see above) and the butterfly is from the other border in the set.  The mats for the chick were cut using the new Lables 11 dies.  The bunny card features a bunny from Lockhart Rubber Stamps.  The border was die cut from white cardstock then pierced.  I die cut the border again from purple (butterflies), pink (tulip) and yellow (butterflies).  The sentiment on both card is from Memory Box.  Papers for the bunny card are from Lasting Impressions.

Birds-in-Vines Sonoma-Print-1   Saturday morning's classes explores the new Memory Box spring collection of stamps.  We will use a variety of stamps and techniques to create four beautiful cards.  Please join us!

Create-Flowers Create-Tree Sonoma-Print-2

3D-Hero-Kids  3D-Tulip The afternoon class on Saturday will be all about using some of the new Spellbinders dies.  First we will use a 3D technique (credit: Sherry Cheever) with Labels 11 and a new stamp from Hero Arts.  The tulip card uses a vintage image from Crafty Secrets (the tulip border is from Spellbinders too).

Monogram-Card-1 For the daffodil card I uses the new Cherry Pickin' Frame and Labels 5 (which was impressed with the Flourish Impressability) as mats for a new Hero Arts daffodil stamp.  The border is punched with a new Martha Stewart deep edge border punch.  The paper is some that I have had for a while -- it's from Scapperdashery.  The monogrammed card uses Kaiser Lilac Avenue paper, Labels 13 and Flourish Accents and the Just Rite Stamper with the Curlz font.  It's all about Spellbinders dies so please join us to learn a lot!

This past week I finished a number of class projects including the "Elegant Mini Book" so be sure to surf over to our website at www.stampactelpaso.com and check out all the classes for March and April.

Easter Class and Slider Cards

Paris-front Paris-open Hello friends.  A funny thing happened in cyberspace recently.  Two different customers called me to register for a class that was actually offered 3 years ago!  The February 2007 class page is still floating around out there in cyberspace and they had stumbled upon it.  We had a good laugh and then I told them that I would offer the class again.  So this weekend (Saturday, March 20) we will have a Slider Card class.  Sunflowers-front Sunflowers-open Slider cards (sometimes called pop up cards) are really fun to make and once you see the basic design you can make them quickly.  Our first card features a collage card right out of Paris.  Pull up the slider and a Paris street scene is revealed.  The second card showcases a new Open Line Flower stamp from Hero Arts.  I colored it with Copic markers and added some Nut Brown Flower Soft to the centers.  The sentiment stamp is from Impression Obsession.

Cotton-Scraps-Bunny Cotton-Scraps-Daffodils Saturday morning we will be making a variety of fun Easter cards and favors.  I absolutely am in love with Crafty Secrets vintage images.  This bunny (from their Cotton Scraps Spring) is so cute and adding a tiny bit of Ivory Flower Soft to the pussy willows adds dimension and even more realism.  I love the vintage looking paper too (Karen Foster Easter Collage).  The Easter Gladness daffodils are also enhanced with the new Citrus Crush Ultra Fine Flower Soft.  In looking around for some background paper, I happened upon this sheet of Daffodil paper from Scrapperdashery.  It was perfect!

Easter-Egg-Tree Impressed-Flower-Tubes In addition to the vintage cards above, we will also create a cute card featuring Memory Box’s new Easter Egg Tree.  The eggs are colored with Copics and clear glaze pen to add a colorful dimensionality to the card.  Add some grass and a fence (Martha Stewart punch) and you’re ready to wish someone a happy Easter egg hunt!  One more thing (this class is packed with ideas!) – we will make some spring flowers!  Aren’t these darling?  The idea came from Sue Nelson at http://www.heartprints.net/gallery/cuttlebug.  The stems are slender cellophane tubes filled with peanut M&M’s (you can use jelly beans too) and the flower is Spellbinder’s Nested Flower.  I embossed the flower’s face with Spellbinders Flourish Impressability template then colored the face using jumbo daubers and Memento inks.  The centers are Flower Soft and pearl brads.

Why not join us for one of these fun classes?  Take a couple hours, learn a lot and have some fun!  Just give me a call to 915-833-9500 or email me at hellopolly@aol.com.

One more note.  Our classes for April and May are posted on the website and I have quite a few samples posted already.  So hop over to http://stampactelpaso.com/class.html to see March, April and May’s classes.  We have a very special Mother’s Day class scheduled for April 24 and May 1; 2 mini book classes for you scrapbookers; another metal class, this time using stencils; and lots, lots more!

Please stop in soon and keep your local stamp store healthy so we can keep you informed and inspired!  Thanks!

Crafty Secrets and Flower Soft Classes

Ribbon-wall Hey, remember me?  Sorry I have been gone for a while – it’s been a very busy couple of weeks at The Stamp Act.  With a lot of help from a new stamper and friend, Melissa Gonzalez, the store is now squeaky clean – including the back store room affectionately known as “the black hole!”  Among other tasks, Melissa organized the ribbon wall to color and pattern coordinated all the rolls.  We also eliminated some fixtures to give the showroom a more open and airy feel.  Do drop in and take a look for yourself.

Copic Of course even as we were organizing and cleaning, more merchandise was streaming in.  We have new papers from My Mind’s Eye (Life Stories, Lush and Be Loved collections) – some are flocked and gorgeous while others are printed on kraft paper for that popular vintage look.  We also have new Easter papers (Karen Foster Vintage Easter, Paper Company Sunny Bunny and Reminisce Happy Easter) replete with bunnies, chicks and eggs!   As a result of our Copic Marker class this past weekend, we have an ample supply of Copics in stock – both open stock and in sets of three markers that will blend well together.

Kathi Anderson’s classes last weekend were fabulous and I think everyone who took her classes learned a lot and had a great time.  I (and I believe everyone in the class!) loved the samples we made with metal.  OMG it is so cool!  I will be teaching more metal classes coming up soon!  The Copic marker class was packed and we all learned new ways to work with these wonderful makers!  Thanks Kathi for sharing your knowledge with us!

Whats-New-Buttons Plant-SmilesThis Saturday’s morning class features cards created with vintage images from the Birds and Botanicals Journaling Notes pad from Crafty Secrets.  This little paper pad has 32 pages and each image would make a beautiful card.  I will show you how to combine the vintage photos with stamps, embellishments and die cuts to create four distinctive cards!

Hydrangeas Flower-Soft-Bird

Impression-Obsession-House Watering-Can Saturday afternoon we will turn our attention to working with Flower Soft.  We will fill the flower boxes on a house (stamp by Impression Obsession) with pretty flowers and greenery and I will even show you how to shade with Flower Soft.  Then we will make some flower stems to fill a watering can (stamp by Lockhart Rubber Stamps).  Lastly we will make a pretty little card featuring a cone flower stamp from Memory Box.  Join us for this fun class.

Cone-flowers  Grass-card
This card will not be part of the class, however I will explain how to use the new Ultra Fine Flower Soft (sage) with Scor tape to make the grass and Polar White Flower soft with die cuts and scor tape to make the clouds.  The fence on the card is a Martha Stewart edge punch; the trees are Quickutz die cuts; the cloud background is a Hero Arts stamp; and the tiny butterflies come from another Martha Stewart edge punch.
