February 2010

Butterfly I am really late getting this blog done because so many exciting things are happening here.  for Kathi Anderson’s classes on metal embossing and Copic Markers on Saturday and Sunday March 6 and 7 are filling up but there’s still room in both classes.  Check your calendar and sign up soon.  You can see the samples and class details at http://stampactelpaso.com/MARCH2010.html.

Change Speaking of classes, this weekend’s classes are really fun and unique.  In Saturday (Feb. 27, 10am) morning's Encouragement Tin class, we will alter a tin that will hold the 5 inspirational magnets that we stamp, die cut and decorate.  In the afternoon, you can learn all about making Blended Backgrounds using jumbo daubers and Distress ink pads.  Look at these colorful cards – and I promise yours will look equally good!  We will be using Hero Arts’ new Dandelion Frame stamp on all the cards. (Let me acknowledge inspiration from samples on Tosh's blog).

Flower-Soft-Bird Looking ahead … Our March 13 (10am) class will be all about Vintage Birds and Blossoms.  Using the Crafty Secrets Journaling Notes pad, we will make four absolutely darling cards.  !  We will add fun touches and embellishments to enhance the vintage images and you will go home with the rest of the journaling pad of 32 pages.  I made 8 cards total and could have kept going!  Here are the samples for the class and the other four I made.  Let me acknowledge the inspiration I gained from the Crafty Secrets website and Sharon Johnson in particular.

Tin-CoverSat, Feb 27 (10am) I will be teaching a class I am calling “Encouragement Tin.”  We will decorate a CD (size) tin then fill it with magnets featuring encouraging and inspiring quotes.  All-magnets The  quotes are all from on set of cling-mounted stamps called the Quote Bundle from Unity Stamps.  The decorative paper I used is Little Yellow Bicycle's Vita Bella collection and most of the background stamps are from Memory Box.  Magnet-on-small-display This will make a wonderful set to send to a friend or family member to let them know you are thinking of them.  Above you see all five magnets displayed on a memo board we sell; on the right you see one magnet on a metal display we sell.  I am going to send a set of these to my nieces who are in collage and can always use some encouragement!  This class will give you lots of experience using your die cut machine too so why not come and make this fun project?

Memory-Box-Branch-Wreath Memory-Box-Heart-Tree Valentines Day is over for 2010, but heart stamps are still appropriate for many other occasions such as birthdays and Mother's Day  to name two.  Here are two cards that feature hearts.  On the left I stamped the Branch Wreath from Memory Box in Versafine Vintage Sepia then dotted the wreath with Flower Soft glue and sprinkled on some pink Flower Soft.  For the card on the right, I stamped the Heart Tree (the little hearts are mounted on the side of the tree stamp) in Vintage Sepia and the hearts in Memento Rosebud.  All the papers are from the Memory Box Gossamer collection.

What’s NEW in the Store

NEW Flower Soft® Ultra Fine -- We just received the new Flower Soft® Ultra Fine in 8 delicious colors.  Ultra Fine Flower Soft is much finer than original Flower Soft® which means it will give realistic dimension on much smaller images.  Think of Ultra Fine Flower Soft as an alternative to flock or glitter. The range includes several colors purposely designed to create fur effects... Think toffee teddy bears and cute koalas!

Hero Arts Shabby Chic Cards

Aged-Background-Flower Silhouette-flowersHello fellow stamp lovers.  Thanks for stopping by today.  Hero Arts has a whole new catalogue and it is the best in years.  It features a variety of stamps from cute and whimsical to more artsy.  Hero also offers every type of stamp including wood mounted, clear stamps and cling mounted stamps. For my class this Saturday morning I tried to give each card a shabby chic look.  The card on the left is inspired by one I saw on Hero's blog by Shari Carroll.  It is quick and easy and uses distress ink pads in a unique way.  The card (above right) shows you how to color a bold stamp (the flowers are actually the negative space) in a very creative way.

Butterflies

This card combines several elements into one soft look.  The background is embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder and a circle is cut out of the middle with a Spellbinders circle die.  The roses are stamped in Versafine Sepia and colored with Prismacolor pencils.  The butterflies are die cut (Spellbinders) as is the sentiment mat (Labels 4).

Roses Two-Birds These two cards feature stamps from Hero's "Two Birds
Cling Set" and copy a design from their catalogue.  The stamps are stamped in Memento Rich Cocoa and colored with Copic markers.  The roses stamp is stamped in Memento Rosebud for a monochromatic background paper.

I hope you will join me Saturday to make these cards.  I promise you will learn new techniques while having a great time!

Special Classes at The Stamp Act

Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7, The Stamp Act will be having some very special classes presented by Kathi Anderson, sales rep for many of the finest stamp and craft manufacturers.  Kathi is certified in both Copic Markers and Merc Art metal art.  These are two of the hottest trends in papercrafting and stamping today and I am very excited to offer these classes to my customers.

These classes are open to everyone; however, because they involve what may be a new art form to many of you, some investment in supplies is required.  This is another reason that I need your cooperation in registering as soon as possible – I must order the supplies you will need in time for them to arrive for the class.  I hope you will check your schedule and let me know as soon as you can whether you want to attend.  Just give me a call at 833-9500 to ask any questions or to register for class.

Seating is limited so registration is first come first served.  To further encourage early registration, you will receive a discount on the Class Fee and the required tool kits if you register by Saturday, February 20.
