January 2010

Hello and thanks for stopping by.  This coming weekend is February 6 and that's a very special day at The Stamp Act because it is Chloe's (our shop dog) ninth birthday!  In her honor I would like to offer everyone shopping at the store this Saturday a special 9% discount on all purchases of regularly priced merchandise.  I hope you will stop in and give Chloe some birthday greetings and enjoy the savings on your purchases!

In case you have tome for a class, I will be teaching two very fun classes.  In the morning from 10am to noon, we will be making a set of 6 All Occasion cards using one set of clear stamps from Hampton Arts and Cosmo Cricket Early Bird paper.  Here's a preview of the cards:

Happy-Birthday-Owl Hello-bird
Sending-Love Sweet
Thanks-Tree Thinking-of-you-flower

Petunia-Puzzle Petunia-Explosion My afternoon class is All About Inchies.   These two cards are inspired by ones on the Inchie Arts blog.  They both use the "Patio Petunias" stamp from Lockhart Rubber Stamp Company.  The card on the left is called an Inchie Explosion card and the card on the left is called an Inchie Puzzle.  Isn't it cool how one stamp can look so different in these two treatments?  I hope you will come and find out how to create these cards yourself.

Masterboard-cardThis card is the result of creating a MasterBoard then coloring it and punching out Inchies.  This is a really creative and fun technique.  Accordion-Book-all-pagesThis little book accordion book really shows off Inchies in a stylish way.  The stamps are all from Lockhart.  Please give me a call and sign up for a class this Saturday.  Or just stop in and save 9% of on all purchases of regular merchandise.  I hope to see you then!

Just Rite Plant a Garden Cards and Dreamweaver Stencil Cards

Pansies In case you are wondering, I changed the classes for this coming weekend.  The other classes just didn’t come together the way I had hoped so it was on to more exciting things like the new Just Rite flower stamps.  My afternoon class features these beauties!  The card on the left is pansies colored with Tombow markers as watercolors.  The paper is Basic Grey Urban Couture and the punch is Martha Stewart's Garden Trellis.

The card on the right is the Hydangeas done in pink with Tmbow markers.  I layered it on lots of Spellbinders Nestabilities with the Lattice Pendant as the bottom layer.

This card (left) is called an easel card and it is created with the Just Rite Poppy stamp.  The greeting is from the Just Rite Romantic Sentiments set.  It is colored with Copic markers and Spellbinders Eyelet pendant is the bottom mat (stamped with Hero Art's new Cling Friendship background stamp).  I know the flower looks a little "hazy" -- it is because I stamped on Cryogen White paper which has a sparkle. I hope you will join us for this colorful class!

Dreamweaver Brass Stencils

Crackled-Rose My morning class on Saturday (January 23) is all about valentines and Brass Stencils.  My scanner is awful so please ignore the "dirty" look to the white cardstock.  I assure you it is pristine in person!  This rose stencil is so beautiful -- I embossed it with black stencil paste then crackled and painted it with Brilliance inks.  The decorative paper is Making Memories Love Struck.

Love-Grows-Heart-Flowers I adore the flower wreath stencil (left)!  I embossed it with the original embossing paste then stippled on color using Brilliance inks.  The Heart Flowers (left) were quick and easy using red glossy embossing paste and on white paper cut with the Spellbinders Mega rectangles die.

The fourth card I made was with the swan stencil and a technique I call "double embossing."  First I embossed the swans with red glossy embossing paste then sprinkled on pink glittery (Desert Rose from Stamp a Mania) embossing powder and heated it to melt the embossing powder -- I wish you could see the card in person because it is very glimmery!  If you love stencils and want to know more about working with them, give me a call and register for our morning class on Saturday, January 23.

Miscellaneous Valentines Samples

This card is made with a new stamp from Penny Black called "Love is the Message."  I know it may look very complicated at first glance, but it is so easy that a beginner could make this card perfectly!  The stamp includes the heart and the dark burgundy flourish.  I inked the stamp in Colorbox Scarlet then using Versacolor Burgundy i inked the flourish and the outside edges of the heart.  I then inked Penny Black's "Scrolling Along" stamp in Colorbox Ocher and stamped the small flourish on top onf the right side of the heart.  I stamped another heart, cut it out and popped it up on the first heart.  The edges are distressed in Vintage Photo Distress ink and the border (top and bottom) is Spellbinders Lace Border.

Quickutz-Love-Shapes-Dies One more fun card to share with you.  "Pucker Up" features lips die cut with Quickutz' Love Shapes cookies cutter die set.  The paper is Making Memories Love Struck.  The stamp is from A Muse.

Enjoy these samples -- I hope they will inspire you to come to class and learn how to make them!  Thanks for stopping in!

Vintage Cards with Glimmer Mist

Think-Spring Hey 2 posts in a week – hooray!  Hello fellow stampers.  With lots of inspiration and instruction from Linda Duke, today I am showing you some cards that I will be teaching on Saturday, January 23 from 2 to 4pm and repeating it on Wednesday evening, January 27 from 6 to 8pm.    These cards are much more impressive in person because they are all created with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and shimmer and shine just can’t be captured on my scanner.  The cards are all created with a technique for creating very soft backgrounds with glimmer mist.  Other items I used are Tattered Angels Framed Fonts, a variety of Spellbinder dies, ribbon from May Arts and a sheet of Crafty Secrets cardstock stickers (Birds and Botanical).  I really hope you will stop in and see the cards for yourself – and attend the class so you can make some yourself!  For more details, see http://stampactelpaso.com/January2010.html.

Here are two more cards that show this technique:

Hero Arts 2010 Has Arrived

Hero Arts new release is here and it is really wonderful with a wide variety of styles and themes!  I ordered mostly the clear stamps sets which are a wonderful value, and in addition to stamps there are cards and envelopes with matching layering papers all of which are colored on the outside and white on the inside.  Coordinating with these are embellishments like flowers, crystals and pearls!  You must come in and see the colorful display!  When you do pick up their latest catalogue for lots and lots of inspiration!

New Just Rite Stampers Valentines Sets ... and More!

Key-to-my-heart Hi readers.  Today I am going to share with you some cards I made using the new Just Rite Stampers for Valentines and other occasions.  Each set includes either 6 or 9 1⅝” centers that can be combined with any of the 1⅝” borders or the new 2” wide round borders.  For this card I used one of the new 2” borders embossed in silver and die cut with Spellbinders Petite Circle Nestabilities (as was the black mat). The center is from the new JR Romantic Sentiments set.  Next I die cut a heart lock and key (Quickutz) and attached them with silver cord threaded through a 1/16” silver eyelet (American Tag).  The DP is Basic Grey Bittersweet and the border punch is Martha Stewart Valentines Lace.

Live-Love-Laugh For my next card is inspired by another of the JR Design Team.  I used a very soft color combination of grey and light pink; embossed the background with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folders; then layered it on top of a pink mat and a grey card (5¼”). The ¼” ribbon (May Arts) is a beautiful iridescent grey with a pink border.  I chose another center from the JR Romantic Sentiments set and stamped it on white c/s.  I then die cut the stamped image and created a frame with Spellbinders Labels 2.  The framed sentiment is layered onto a Fleur de Lys Pendant (Spellbinders) die cut in pink.  I added some pewter and pink pearls to complete the card.  One more item to note: the ribbon’s bow nestles snuggly on the card because I notched the white cardstock with a ⅜” circle punch.  Nifty idea!

Faith-hope-love My next 2 cards each use a center from the Loving Thoughts set.  One this to note about this set is that JR has combined both round and square centers in one set.  For this first card I stamped the center and the square flourish border from the JR 2” Square Borders in black on salmon pink c/s.  This is matted in black then mounted on a mat cut with Spellbinders Labels 9.  How to make the skinny black mat around the pink die cut is a technique I will be teaching in the afternoon class this Saturday.  Visit http://stampactelpaso.com/January2010.html for more details.  To finish this card I embossed the white c/s with the Cuttlebug Textured Textile folder and mounted everything on DP from Prima adding lace from Prima and pearls from KaiserCraft.

Hearts My final card is copied from one Becca Feekan showed recently on her blog.  While it is a touch “elaborate” in the words of my friend Susan, it is perfect if you want to really impress someone!  The “Hugs and Kisses” center (Loving Thoughts set) is stamped in red and mounted atop the 2” wide border and a series of die cuts (octagons and a scalloped circle).  Two red hearts peek out from underneath the focal image.  The DP is from Making Memories and the ribbon is Creative Impressions.  The finished size of the card is 5” x 7”.

Piece-of-my-heart Mice-with-chocolate Saturday morning I am teaching a class using the new Penny Black “Piece of my Heart” clear stamp set.  Here are two more cards we will be making in that class.  Both cards are colored with Copic markers.  They are so cute and colorful – any Valentine would love to have them!

Just Rite Stamper Cards

Chloe-t-shirt-1 Chloe-t-shirt-2 Hello readers.  My dear friend and fellow dog (and cat) lover Judith made sure that my Bichon, Chloe, had a wonderful Christmas.  Not only did she get treats and a cookbook to make homemade treats, but she got this wonderful t-shirt to wear.  Chloe loved it and wore it proudly for over a week.  Thank you Judith for making both of us very happy!

I have another set of cards to share with you today.  I will be teaching them on Saturday, January 16 from 2 to 4pm.  They are all made with these recently released Just Rite Stampers sets:

Square-frames 2” square frames

Two-inch-frames 2” round wide borders

Just-a-note-borders-and-centers Just a Note borders and centers set that fits the 1 5/8” round stamper.  Just Rite is doing a great job at designing their sets to work together.  For instance, the 2” round stamper will hold a 2” border, a 1 5/8” border and/or a 1 5/8” center.   Also the new square frames will “frame” some of the sentiments in the new Loving Thoughts set.

In the class, we will mix and match various sets and combine the stamps with Spellbinders Nestabilities dies.  As you may know, Nestabilities are a series of nested dies sized in 1/4" increments.  Often I want a mat for my Nestabilities die cut that is only 1/8" larger than the die I am using.  What to do?  Come to the class and find out how to solve that problem quickly and easily for any die!  In this picture (left), the black mats around both the blue and white die cuts are "constructed."  Come and learn how!

Monogrammed Both the card above and this Happy Birthday card use Hero Arts background stamps.  They really show off the focal point stamps well!  I also used a new Martha Stewart punch (Botanical Scallop) in the center of the card.  For the colorful card (right), I used one of the new 2" round borders and the Times Roman font set to create a monogrammed card.  Just-Because The Just Because card shows off one of the ten centers and borders from the new Just a Note set.

Just Rite has also just released two new sets that should be arriving today.  They are just gorgeous!

Loving-thoughtsI will show you samples with these as soon as they arrive!

Penny Black Clear Stamp set  Here's one more sample to share with you.  I combined one of the images from the new Penny Black "Piece of my Heart" clear stamp set with a new Lockhart Rubber Stamp sentiment stamp.  This will be part of a class I am teaching on SSaturday, January 23 from 10am to noon.

I hope to see you in the store and in class soon.  If you are looking for something or have questions about stamping or products, please give me a call any time.  And don't miss the huge 75% sale -- many people have come 2 and 3 times!  The bargains are incredible!  Happy Stamping!

Hello and Happy New Year to all my readers!  Another year of stamping fun lies ahead and I for one was thrilled to finally get back into the stamping mode a few days ago.  The store has been totally rearranged and cleaned, and the sale merchandise stacked high on the classroom tables.  FYI:  You better get in here because these bargains won't last.  Most of the stamps are $1 to $3 and there's tons of other stuff that's cheap, cheap, cheap!
