Exciting Tim Holtz Workshop

Hi Stamping Friends.  I am so excited to share with you a wonderful workshop we have coming on Saturday, October 24.  My friend and customer Denise Daniel just returned from the Creative Escape Workshop in Phoenix where she took a class with Tim Holtz.  Denise has agreed to teach two sessions of this fun project on October 24.  In the workshop you will make a travel journal (morning session) or a Christmas Memory Book (afternoon session).  Each little book contains pocket pages, jounraling tickets and mini page protectors for photos.  And the books fit in a miniature suitcase that is too cute!  It has straps and a gathered pocket on the inside.  These classes are already popular so if you want to make this project, please sign up today.  Here are some other sample pages from the books:

Sunday Closing

Because of the show, we will be closed on Sunday, October 4.

Classes This Weekend

Whether  you're in the mood to make Halloween cards or feeling more like fall, we have you covered this Saturday.  Felicity will be teaching two classes and her cards are sure to please everyone!  In the morning she has spooks and spirder webs adorning her cards and in the afternoon she has gorgeous fall leaves and Autumn Flower Soft on fall trees.  Her classes always fill up and these are no exception so please call today if you wish to attend.  Go to http://stampactelpaso.com/OCTOBER2009.html to see all the class samples.

Pendant Pumpkins

Are these the cutest pumpkins you've ever seen?  Kimberly Crawford, part of the Spellbinders Design team, recently posted this projects on her blog at http://www.kimberly-crawford.blogspot.com/.  I couldn't wait to make them.  They are created with Spellbinders Eyelet Pendant (large and small), Tag Trio Labels for the stems and the 12" On The Vine border. Simply cut 6 large pendants for the large pumpkin and 4 small pendants for the small pumpkin.  Score each on wrong side down the center.  Run through the Xyron machine to add adhesive and adhere them buy adhering half of a wrong side together with another half.  I cut them from some new Doublemates cardstock that is orange on one side and brown on the other.  Cut one 12" vine and use half for the large pumpkin and split the other half between the two small pumpkins.   These would make a nice centerpice for Thanksgiving and/or great place cards.  Enjoy!

For Beginners Only

Hi Stamping Friends!  It's been a realy interesting week at The Stamp Act.  The young lady in the photo at left is Megumi Seo from Japan.  She and her friend are touring the Southwest.  She loves stamping and told me that there are stamp stores in Japan but they are small and many products cost much more there than here.  She was so cute running around the store like the proverbial kid in a candy store!  She had never seen brass stencils and was fascinated with the crackle technique that I taught recently.  She bought all the supplies and I gave her the instructions for the cards.  Good luck Megumi!

In addition to Meg's visit this week, several old customers who haven't been here for many years have stopped in.  I think the cooler weather gives us more incentive to stamp!  I have also had many deliveries this week -- 8 boxes in one day!!!  Here's a run down of what's new in the store:

Stampendous -- Back to School stamps; Fall and Halloween stamps; Birthday stamps

Copic Markers -- we're loaded -- hurry in for best selection!  Love them!!!!

Doublemates cardstock-- This is double sided c/s and I ordered it in beautiful fall colors of olive, terra cotta and deep red

Inkadinkado -- Very artistic fall stamps and they're only $2.29 -- you can't go wrong!

Tim Holtz -- New Rock Candy Distress and Rock Candy Sticklesas well as few other new distress stickles colors (Bronze and Picket Fence).  If you haven't heard of Rock candy -- it is clear and very cool!  Gotta have!  We have his new Word Sticks and Masking Sheets and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of his Filmstrip ribbon in a few weeks.

Hero Arts -- Stamps for halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Their new line little gem embellishments (ornaments, stars, holly and snowflakes) and felt embellishments (leaves, angels and evergreen trees).

Just Rite-- I think all their new items are in stock currently but they won't last.  Every set has sold out over and over so if you are interested in these fabulous sets stop in soon!  The Halloween set is so cute and the Autumn Blessings set is a real favorite!  Remember they are all limited edition and won't be available after the season!

Spellbinders -- Speaking of limited editions -- I have all the seasonal dies in stock right now.  Poinsettias, trees, maple leaves, Christmas shapes (see sample below), snowflakes and pumpkins.  I also have for ethe first time a 12" vine border that is gorgeous and the new Snowflake Frame.  Must haves -- thy will sell out quickly!

Penny Black -- Lots of season clear sets.  Fun little critters doing fun things!

Making Memories Mistletoe Paper -- This paper has it all -- colorful, cute and elegant!  perfect for your Christmas cards!  Some are glittered, some have cute little reindeer and some are artistic like the music paper.  Come check it out!

A Muse-- new halloween stamps that are selling fast.  Also I ordered some of their cardstock: tiny gingham checks and white polka dots.  It's 81/2" x 11" and perfect for cardmaking.

Flower Soft-- They have been overwhelmed by the demand for their product and the boats can't come from China quick enough to satisfy the orders!  I have more Polar White and Box Sets on the way (should be here early next week) and I am checking the website everyday to see if the Autumn is back in stock.  It should be available early next week so with luck it will be in my store by early October.

Day of the Dead -- I have day of the Dead stamps from Deadbeat Designs and Rubber Soul.  They sell fast so come in soon if you need some.

Basic Grey -- The new Indian Summer papers are gorgeous (I know I am overusing that word but ...).  we have them in 12" x 12" and in the small 6" x 6" pad.  we also have the Eskimo Kisses 6" pad.

Impression Obsession -- Very creative and artistic stamps; cling mounted so easy to store and easy on the pocketbook!  Should arrive today or tomorrow.

Martha Stewart Punches-- More new seasonal punches.  A beautiful cardinal; snowman with all his pieces; snowman border punch; new snowflake corner and edge punches; a darling gingerbread border punch and a pumpkin patch border punch.  These will arrive in early October and they are very limited.

Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist-- Felicity will be using Glimmer Mist in her Fall Cards class October 3 at 2pm.  The colors are gorgeous for the halloween fall and christmas seasons -- and there's so much you can do with them.  watch for an upcoming class using their new glimmer screens!

Lockhart Stamp Company -- New season and old favorite stamps including their new window stamps!  Color them and enjoy!

Memory Box -- I reordered the new Twilight paper pad (Halloween) as well as many of his new stamps.  In the Making Memories papers there is a paper with cardinals on it -- it's the perfect paper for a card using one of the cardinals by Memory Box!

Whew -- I think that's enough for now.  Hero Artshas a whole new mini catalog called "Crazy for Clings" so watch for new Hero stamps soon!

Our Daily Bread Design Stamps and Samples

Hello on the first day of Autumn.  It's early morning and a blustery, cool wind is blowing outside so it actually feels like fall in the desert Southwest.  Yeah -- may summer go away!  Last week I mentioned all the new merchandise that would be soon arriving at The Stamp Act.  Well yesterday 5 boxes arrived!  I didn't have time to unpack them, but will this morning so plan a trip to see all the new goodies!

Last week we received our first order of stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs.  These stamps are beautiful and meaningful and I couldn't wait to play with them.  This Saturday morning's class (10am to noon) will be cards made with these stamps.  Let me share them with you.  The first card (left) uses a set called Grow with Grace which includes a very beautiful dogwood blossom as well as several verses or sentiments.  This card could be done in other colors as well -- picture cool blues or soft lavenders!

For my second card I used the Keep My Light Burning set that includes a lighthouse with a space (upper left) that is just the right size to stamp the four quotes that come with the set.  This card is all about the little touches that enhance the card and carry out the nautical theme.

My final card is soft and pretty and uses the Sing to the Lord set.  I chose to use one of the quotations from the set which also includes a beautiful bird stamp.  Again embellishments like flowers (Prima) and branches (Martha Stewart punch) on the card carry out the soft look.

If you want to learn how to make these cards, please join us Saturday morning at 10am.  Give me a call by Friday morning to register for class.  We would love to have you!

Thanks for reading my blog today.  If you are not seeing the photos it's because I am writing this at home and will add photos once I get to the office this morning.  Check back in  a couple hours to see the photos.  Happy Autumn!

Christmas Kickoff This Weekend

SnowmanMerry Christmas -- a 3 1/2 months early!  This Saturday we will kickoff our Christmas card making classes with two wonderful classes.  Each class uses a popular favorite embellishment -- glitter and flower soft -- to give the cards that special holiday look.  Please note that t

his project is inspired by one I saw on this blog: http://stamptalkwithtosh.blogspot.com.  Thanks Tosh!  We will make 6 cards using a new set of clear stamps from Inkadinkado (set name is Holiday Greetings).  A little coloring with Copic markers, a little glitter, ribbon and buttons and you've got a wonderful set of cards for friends and family.  Here's the link to my website http://stampactelpaso.com/SEPTEMBER2009.html where you can view all the cards -- just scroll down to September 18 at 10am.  Please call (915-833-9500) or email me (hellopolly@aol.com) to register for class.  we would love to have you!

Penguin-Card Saturday afternoon's class will be Hero-Pine-Boughequally fun with Flower Soft taking center stage!  In the card at left (designed by Barb Schram, Just Rite Design team), penguins play inthe snow while on the right, snow coats the pine bough (Hero Arts).  Below you will see flower soft snow dusting the branches of the Fantasy Tree (Penny Black).  Isn't this paper divine?  it's from S.E.I. and it's even prettier in person.  The final cards uses Flower Soft Vintage Christmas and one of their pre-printed toppers to make a quick and easy card.  Please join us at 2pm on Sat!
Fantasy-Tree Xmas-Topper

Belated-Birthday-Turtle This week I had to make a two birthday cards.Magenta-Ship  First I made Felicity a belated birthday card using a cute little Inakadinkado clear stamp turtle and colorful paper from Prima.  The frame is the very versatile Polka Dot frame from Spellbinders.  For a male friend I used a ship from Magenta Rubber Stamps and paper from K and Co.  This ship card was quite a challenge as I had to find inks and Copic marker colors that would coordinate with the paper.  I finally stamped the ship in Weather Wood Distress ink (Ranger); colored the sails with Copic BG000, the boat with W1 and the flag with R81.  The background is distressed with Ranger distress inks Frayed Burlap, Weathered Wood and Black Soot. The sentiment stamp is very old from PSX and it too is stamped in Weathered Wood.  I think it makes a very nice card for a guy!

Go Aggies

Go-Aggies Aggie-MomSince my niece Emilee is going to Texas A & M   I had to copy a couple of the cards that Mark at Deadbeat Designs designed.  One for Emilee (left) and one for my sister Ann.  She actually goes to an Aggie Mom's group so this card is very appropriate!  I know they will be surprised and pleased with these.

Back to School Cards

Felicity's Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer and the official beginning of the school year for students and teachers.  I always remember going to back to school with great fondness as it meant new clothes, new pencils and notebooks, and new friends.  My two nieces are both going off to college this year and I wanted to make them some “Back to School” cards to wish them well in their studies.  I was inspired by Felicity’s fabulous back to school card (above left).  She really packed a lot on the card -- here’s a list of the items she used:

Decorative paper – Stemma

Border binding punch – EK Success

Apple die cut – Quick Kutz

Tiny ruler – Collage Strips by Tim Holtz (not available any longer)

File Folder punch – McGill

Star punch – Punch Bunch

Alphabet – Cuttlebug Baby Face

For my cards I chose three stamp sets by Stampendous (School for Max, Chalk Board and Teacher Topper).  I also used an apple die cut from Quickutz.  I hope you are inspired to make one for your favorite student or teacher!
