August 2009

Just Rite Autumn Blessings Cards

I am so eager for Fall to come that I thought I would make some fall-themed cards using the new Just Rite Stamper Autumn Blessings set.  This is such an attractive set of stamps.  They all fit on an oval mount (2 1/4" x 3 1/16") and there are 6 interchangeable centers and borders.  If you like the cards please come to our upcoming class and learn how to make them -- it's scheduled for saturday, September 19 from 10am to noon.  Here are the cards I made with this set:

Apples Give-Thanks Indian-Corn Watering-Can

Leaves  These cards are all colored with Copic Markers. The "Happy Harvest" stamp is from our $1 sale!  The decorative paper is K and Company, Moxie, Scenic Route and Karen Foster.  The sunflowers in the watering can card are embellished with Flower Soft (nut brown) -- my friend Susan suggested that touch and it's a good one!  I hope you will join us for the class!

Our $1 halloween sale is still going strong -- hurry in for these extreme bargains!

New items expected this week are:
Exciting new Halloween, fall and holiday stamps from Impression-Obsession

    New Basic Grey fall papers

    More stamps from Hero Arts

A Word to the Wise

Just-Rite-Halloween-Set The latest trend among manufacturers in our industry is the "Limited Edition."  because consumers (hence store owners) are always looking for "what's new", seasonal product releases are now almost always limited editions.  What that means is that the wonderful Just Rite Stamper Halloween set ("Witch Way to the Treats") is a limited release.  Once it is gone it is gone forever.  The same is true with the new seasonal Spellbinders dies like the poinsettia, pine trees and pumpkins.  So a "Word to the Wise": if you see them and like them, buy them because they will not be available in a few weeks!

Speaking of the Just Rite Halloween set, let me show you the cards felicity made with that set -- soooo cute!

Pinking-circles-outside In case you need some inspiration for Halloween,Pinking-circles-insideFelicity has provided that too!  On the left is a card she made using the Just Rite Halloween set and the Spellbinders pinking circles.  On the right is the inside of the card.  The paper is from Imaginesce and the ribbon is Bo Bunny.  The little jack-o-lantern pumpkin is from EK Success and the with punch is (I think).
Stampendous-shape-shifting-

For the ghost card (left) Felicity used the new Stampendous shape shifting Ghost popping out of a frame created with the Martha Stewart spider web corner and edge punches.

Matchbook-outside

The photo of the cat on the fence is actually a little matchbook that Felicity made. The cat and the scary fence are both Martha Stewart punches. These matchbooks are easy to make and can very addictive.  Just a few scores in your cardstock, a few punches and a few stamps and you are done!  Your little trick or treaters will love them!
Skull-Graveyard

By the way, some of the brand new Martha Stewart punches are already sold out (at the manufacturer) so if you see one you like get it now!  The graveyard punch that Felicity used on the "skull" card (left) is sold out but I have a few coming next Monday.  Let me know if you want one.

Butterfly-Collage Saturday morning I am Flower-Collage teaching a class loaded with techniques!  I will be using stamps from Magenta Rubber Stamps and a variety of tools and products.  For the butterfly card (left) we will make our own pearlescent paints.  For the flower card (right) we will create the background using distress inks.  For the ship card below, we will use Copic markers and paper from Daisy Bucket's Nantucket collection.  It will be a fun and informative class so sign up now!
Ship

Card-1 The afternoon class is Card-2 all about Penny Black stickers.  We will create 6 cards using the stickers, papers and one stamp -- Penny Black's Penmanship Background/Border stamp.

This class is just about full so be sure to call me (915-833-9500) quickly if you are interested!

In conclusion I'd like to mention two stories I was told recently by two customers.  One had traveled to San Diego where she used to live.  When she looked up her former stamp store she found it open, but really depleted as far as new merchandise.  Another out-of-town customer recently told me that her local stamp store didn't carry any of the hot new merchandise like Spellbinder dies, Flower Soft and Just Rite Stamper products.  I know this sounds self-serving, but the more you shop locally the better stamp store you will have.  Please shop here first because I know you will find something new and exciting priced very reasonably.  Thanks!

Spellbinders Labels 8 Note Card Set

Clutch I love Spellbinders new Labels 8 die set and I love the project that Debbie Olsen created to introduce this die during the Blog Frenzy.  You can see her blog at http://debbiedesigns.typepad.com.  I have recreated the project and will be teaching it on Saturday, September 5 from 2 to 4pm.  The project starts with a cute little clutch "purse" that  opens up and holds four notecards with envelopes.  The outside of the clutch and the notecards are all made with the largest die in the labels 8 set which is just shy of 4" x 5 1/2".  Here are photos of the notecards and envelopes:

Card-3 Card-4

The project is made with the Die Cuts with a View La Creme Mat Stack of 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" black and cream papers many of which are embossed!  All the sentiments are from one Hero Arts clear stamp set.  The brad on the "clutch" opening is created with the new Chatterbox Brad maker.  I hope you will plan to join is for this fun class!  happy Stamping, scrapping and paper crafting!

Dreamweaver Stencil Samples

Crackle-Horses Today I am going to share with you samples made with Dreamweaver Stencils, embossing paste, and their new crackle paste.  If you have not used these products ever or in a while, I can guarantee that these new techniques will excite you and put your creativity and imagination in overdrive!  I started working on these cards Sunday and couldn’t stop making them for three days!  If you are interested in learning these techniques, please join me Saturday, September 5 (Labor Day weekend) for the class where I will be teaching them.

Tree-crackle All these techniques are easy to do and even though the pastes must dry before you take the next step, in our low humidity and high heat, it usually means only about 30 to 60 minutes waiting time.  I recommend paste embossing many samples at once so you have lots of samples to experiment with.  Another note: I used Southwestern stencils for my samples, but I guarantee these techniques will look just as good on any stencil – think fall and Christmas!

Pots-Crackle-Embossing-Powd Crackle-Iris-KathiFirst the crackle paste – OMG it is so cool!  First emboss the stencil with black embossing paste and set aside to dry for about 30 minutes.  Then apply the crackle paste on top of the black, applying a thick coat for large cracks or a thin coat for small cracks.  The crackle paste takes about 60 minutes to completely crackle.  The last step is to color the stenciled image with ink.  If you could see these samples in person you’d see that they are very sparkly and shiny.  The Crackled Iris sample is by Kathi Anderson.

Kokopellli-embossing-powder Buffalo-Emb-Powder The second technique I will teach in the class will be one that my sales rep Kathi Anderson created and taught me on a recent trip.  I will keep it a secret for now –come to the class to find out.  I can assure you that you have the product I used in your stamping supplies!  This technique is quick, easy and I believe mistake proof!  The results are so cool!  The Buffalo sample above is by Kathi Anderson.

Feathers-mica Kokopellli-mica The third technique uses another common stamping product – mica powders – in combination with the stencils and embossing paste.  Mica powders can be a little challenging simply because they are so fine they blow everywhere.  A good fine tip brush helps.

Distress-Ink-Background Splotch-Background Speaking of classes, this weekend’s classes promise to be informative and fun.  Saturday morning I will teach many techniques using distress inks.  A customer commented recently that she thought all distress inks were brown.  Nothing could be further from the truth – distress inks come in a rainbow of colors!  In the class we will combine ink colors to create backgrounds; learn a watercolor stamping technique; discover stamping with water; practice “splotching”; and make a background using the wrinkle-free distress resist technique.  Take a look at the samples cards and join us to learn how to use these versatile inks.
Water-Stamped-Background-1 Wrinkle-Free-Resist

Love-Bug Hello Saturday afternoon I will be teaching the Basic Grey Lemonade card kit.  You will make 8 cards all of which are bright and cheerful.  Add some beautiful cards to your stash by coming to this class!

Finally I am Blogging Again!

I’m back!  Sorry it has been so long since my last blog.  I have just been swamped with class prep, ordering and stocking new merchandise and helping customers find the perfect stamps or stamping product.  Plus the heat has just takes all my strength away so it is hard to get everything done!  All that aside, it is an exciting time as lots of new products are being released.  PLEASE check with me before you order things from the Internet, as often I already have these new products on order and will receive them as soon as they are officially released.  For example, The Stamp Act was one of the very first stores to receive the newest spellbinders dies!  I received mine August 1 and just got an email form Spellbinders yesterday saying they’d be available to ship August 15!  Yeah!  And BTW, the new dies are fabulous!!!

Fist I will share you a preview of classes for August.  Please visit http://stampactelpaso.com/AUGUST2009.html to see all the samples for a particular class.
