Punches are more popular than ever and EK Success and Martha Stewart are taking the punching world to a whole new very exciting level.  Today Iw ant to share with you the brand new punches coming this summer from Martha Stewart, but first let me show you some from EK Success that you can have right now!  Actually, our first shipment sold out quickly, but new ones should arrive very soon.  Not only do the EK edge punches have fabulous, innovative designs, but they fold down and lock in place for a sleeker look that minimizes storage!  Yeah!!!

EK-Edge-Spring-2009

EK-Edge-Spring-2009-2

Don't you love the images?  I especially love the Dinosaur border -- it will coordinate with a single dinosaur punch coming from Martha Stewart and a new clear stamp set of cute dinosaurs coming soon from Penny Black!  Wouldn't these make a cute birthday card or party invitation for a little boy or girl?  And the candles border is sure to be popular for birthdays!  The baby border is perfect for teacher thank you cards and the beach for vacation scrapbooks.  I have many of these punches on order and expect them to arrive next week.  Please let me know if you want me to hold one for you!  Just call me at 915-833-9500 or email to hellopolly@aol.com.

Now let me show you the brand new Martha punches that will be coming this summer.  I have many of them on pre-order and expect they will sell out quickly so if you want any of them, reserve yours now!

MS-Corner-Edg-combo-Fall-20

Martha has a new concept for making a continuous border -- combine a corner punch with a coordinating edge punch.  The resulting "square" can be as small as 3.25" and grow by increments of 1.75" up to 12"!  My favorite is the spider web!

Now, here are Martha's new edge punches -- I love them all!

MS-Edge-Punches-Fall-2009-2

Martha has really taken edge punches to a whole new place -- adding words and images that will make our cards even more expressive and exciting.  Again, these punches will be here in late July so if you want to be first to have one, please let me know now and I will reserve one of the first just for you.

Girly Cards from Impression Obsession

Cinderella-shoes-lg Hi friends.  I hope you had a pleasant weekend.  Mirabou-purse-lg I had a chance this weekend to make some really cute cards using "girly" stamps from Impression Obsession.  I will teaching these in a class this Saturday morning.  These are fun cards to send to girlfriends, daughters and Mom's.  I hope you will join us for the class.  Mirabou-shoe-lg

This is going to be a veyr short post today as Monday is my "day off" and I must run to the grocery, luandry and dog groomer.  Don't forget Felicity's class Saturday afternoon with her spectacular "bows" made with Spellbinders new Octagon Dies.  Here are the projects she will be teaching in her class:
Octagon-card-lg

New Hero Arts Stamps Class

Frog-lgThis Saturday morning Felicity is teaching a very fun class featuring many of the new Hero Arts stamps.  As these cards show, Felicity loves color, and she will be teaching how to blend Prismacolor pencils using Odorless Mineral Spirits.  Circle-Card-lgIf you have not mastered this technique this will be a great opportunity to learn from the "master" -- Felicity is not only great with coloring (of all types) but also a great teacher.  Elephant-lg Just give me a call at 833-9500 or email to hellopolly@aol.com to register.

Speaking of Felicity, she also brought in another card that uses a new stamp set be Hero Arts.  This is the cutest card -- perfect for a guy's birthday.  Again, notice her coloring technique.  Coupon-Birthday-card-lgStitching across the top and Fiskars Treading Water border punch across the bottom frame the coupon panel nicely.

Spellbinders Octagon Dies Class

Gift-bag-lgDon't forget about Felicity's class on April 25th.  She brought in this sample today and it is spectacular!  She covered the front of the bag with DP then made the medallion to match.  You could complete the gift with a card to match!  In her class she will show you how to make medallions and how to make a stunning card using the octagon dies.

Honey I Shrunk the Plastic!

I will be teaching a class on May 16 that will explore Shrink Plastic.  Many of you have expressed interest in learning more about this mysterious material so I thought I would share some of the samples I made for the class.  Daydreams-lg

For this card I stamped a new Penny Black stamp called Day-Dreams on clear shrink plastic which I had cut with a Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangle die.  I colored the flowers with Copic Markers then shrank the plastic. Day-Dreams-1-lgTo give you some perspective on the actual size of the stamp, here's another card I made using the stamp.  For this card I stamped the image and colored it with Copic markers then cut it out using Spellbinders new Labels 4 die.  I cut the mat using the next larger size Label 4 die then embossed it with Cuttlebug's Textile Tapestry embBee-lgossing folder.  I really like the open and airy feeling of the stamp.  Here's another cute sample from the Shrink Plastic class.   The Flourish Bee (Inkadinkado) is stamped on white shrink but not before I colored the plastic with ... well you can find out when you take the class -- it's pretty clever if I do say so myself!  The bee hive, sentiment and branch are from A Muse.  You can see more samples at our website: www.stampactelpaso.com.  Just click on classes then May then scroll down to May 16.

Wizard Workshop -- Creating Flowers

Saturday afternoon's class is going to a be fun as we explore making a variety of flowers with the Wizard and new Spellbinder dies.  Here's a recap of the samples we will make:
Peony-flower-lg

  Pink-Sunflower-lg Pinking-Circles-lg

I hope you can join us and learn more about expressing yourself through stamping and paper crafting.  Thanks for reading the blog and please post any comments you'd like.  Stop in and see what's new at The Stamp Act.

Wizard Workshop: Creating Flowers

Pinking-Circles-lgI have lots and lots to share with you today.  Most importantly, Basic Grey has postponed the ship date of their new Wisteria collection so my class with their Wisteria Card Kit scheduled for this weekend (April 25, 2 to 4pm) has been moved to Saturday, May 2 from 2 to 4pm.  That opened a spot for a very fun class which I am calling Wizard Workshop: Creating Flowers.  Bring your Wizard or other die cutting machine (or use ours) and get hands-on experience working with some of Spellbinders newest dies.  The first card we will make features a "Faux Flower"  created with the large and small Pinking Circle Dies.  Here's what the inside of the card looks like: Pinking-Circles-inside-lg

Peony-flower-lgNext we will use the new Peony Die to create a dimensional flower that is mounted on a card, but would be equally beautiful as a "faux bow" on a gift bag or box.  You will learn how to fold and cut the flower petals to make them "stand up and be noticed!"

Pink-Sunflower-lg Lastly you will use the Sunflower 2 die to create a "pretty-in-pink" daisy mounted on a rectangle cut with the new deckle edged rectangles.
Sunflower-Garden-edge-lgSpeaking of Sunflowers, here's another Flower card I made recently using the Sunflower Garden Edgeabilities die.  I die cut and embossed the cardstock then stenciled the leaves and petals using chalks.
With-Love-lg One other Flower example is this card created with the Cuttlebug "With Love" border set:  I embossed three panels with the large flower; inserted brads and mounted them on Bo Bunny DP.  I then embossed the "with love" panel and mounted it to pink cardstock.

Hero Whimsical Cards
Circle-Card-lgFelicity will teach a very fun class this Saturday (April 25, 10 to noon) morning using new Hero Arts whimsical stamps including a very funny frog and elephant.  She's incorporated a scalloped circle card into the class too.  Frog-lg I love the frog and the mushroom Elephant-lg

as well as the cute elephant!  Don't miss this fun class!

I hope you have a great week and the tax man is kind to you!  Please get your mind off taxes and the wind by stopping by to see what's new!  And don't forget that Just Rite Stampers week with make and takes, discounts and classes is May 5 through May 9!  More on that in a few days!

Memory Box Spring Fling

Friends-card-lg  Hi friends.  Another busy week at The Stamp Act.  We've received new stamps from Hero Arts and Memory Box as well as fun new critter stamps from Penny Black.  Plus we are expecting the very fun new release Just Rite Stampers any day!  In fact I am declaring May 5 through May 9 Just Rite Stampers Week at The Stamp Act.  More details soon, but to whet your appetite I will have a make and take each day, each using a different Just Rite product.  Plus on Saturday, May 9 we will have two classes featuring many new creative ways to use the Just Rite stampers!  The card at left is one Felicity will be teaching in the afternoon class on May 9.  It uses the 3 1/4" stamp kit featuring several different borders and centers.  The paper used is Basic Grey Urban Couture.  Stay tuned for more details about fabulous discounts on all Just Rite products!

Springtime-Pink-Bird-lg We have two great classes this weekend.  Spring-Blossoms-2-lg First on Saturday morning is the Memory Box Spring Fling featuring beautiful stamps and papers from Memory Box.   Dave designs such gorgeous stamps and papers and they combine beautifully together.  Here are two more cards we will make in the class:
Spring-Blossoms-lg     Spring-Birds-lg

Here are two more samples, both using the Silhouette Branch stamp but in different color palettes:
Silhouette-Branch-blue-lg     Silhouette-Branch-red-lg
Both these cards use Memory Box papers in the background.  The sentiment on the cards at left is also memory Box; the sentiment on the card at right is A Muse.

Palamedes-Butterfly-lg  Another card that uses Memory Box stamps is this Butterfly card featuring the Palamedes Swallowtail butterfly, the lovely Swish Border Flourish and the Just a Note sentiment all mounted on papers from the Fernbrae collection.  We have three papers from each collection in 8 1/2" x 11" sheets plus each collection in 6' x 6" packages.

Now speaking of butterflies and Memory Box cards, I went a little crazy one day die cutting butterflies with Spellbinders Butterflies 2 dies out of Memory Box paper.  Look at the results:
Butterfly1  Butterfly2  Butterfly3  Butterfly4  Butterfly5  Butterfly6
These cards also use some cool new stamps from Memory Box -- ones that you might pass up on first glance.  The Adelle Corner can be used as a corner (see middle right card) or as a frame (bottom left).  The Curly Q stamp is perfect for a single butterfly trail (top left and bottom right) while the Dorian Border can accommodate more than one butterfly (top right).  It's such fun to experiment with new stamps and explore their possibilities!
I hope you will join us Saturday morning for the Memory Box Spring Fling!

Birthday Cards featuring Kooky Animals

As they say, these birthday cards are perfect for both the young and the young at heart!  Take a look!
Cow-Herd-lg  Caterpillar-Cupcake-lg  Hoppy-birthday-lg

What a variety of fun animals.  The cows and the caterpillar are Penny Black and the frog is Stampendous.  The "Herd" sentiment is Copper Leaf Creations; "Cupcake day" is Lockhart rubber stamps; and "Hoppy Birthday" is A Muse.  This class is all about coloring and I will showing you how to blend Prismacolor pencils using Odorless Mineral Spirits.  I hope you will join us!

Cap-n-Gown-lg  This past weekend I made 35 Graduation announcements for my niece Emilee.  Whew!  I was worn out -- each one took 7 passes through the Wizard to complete.  Graduationcalendar Next I plan to make her a Countdown Calendar (see sample from the Karen Foster website at right). Each of the 25 drawers is numbered and countdowns to the big day.  My concept is that each day Emilee will open a drawer and inside will be a small gift and a number which she will take to her Mom and exchange for a page to be inserted in a book I am making for her.  The book will have illustrations for wise sayings to live by and my thoughts about each saying.  I have almost finished the book and will share that with you soon.  BTW -- I plan to bind the book with covers and page protectors so she can insert the "pages" into the protectors each day.  Some are humorous, others serious.  Some generic and some specific to her.  What a great gift for a young lady headed to college!

One "word to the wise:"  Make sure there are page protectors the size you need before yous tart your book.  I chose to use the Spellbinders labels One dies for my pages and they measure 4" x 4".  I think I found and ordered 4" x 4" page protectors but I am holding my breath that they fit!

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you in class and in the store soon.

New Spellbinder Dies

Peony-Basket-lg Hello friends.  We received our first shipment of Spellbinder dies this week and they are wonderful.  I have had only had a limited time to play with them, but I did make this darling Easter Basket (copied from one of their design team members) using the new Peony die.   It's perfect for a party favor or small gift to friends or office mates.  And best yet it is fast and easy.  I will be teaching this in my Easter Class this Saturday morning along with Easter cards using the Funny Bunny.  I hope you will join us.

Card-1-lgSaturday afternoon I will be teaching a class I am calling Black, White and Green using a set of clear stamps called Delicate Branches from .  Card-2-lgI was inspired by cards I saw on Sharon Johnson's blog.  The double sided paper and brads are from KaiserCraft (Sublime) and the sentiment stamps are Inkadinkado and Rubber Moon.  I added a little Peeled Paint distress ink to the edges and some lime glitter to the tips of the branches on one card and pale green pearls to the corners of another.

Card-3-lg   Card-4-lg

Cherry Blossom Time

Cherry-Blossoms-lgIt's cherry blossom time in our nation's capital which inspired me to make a card with the new Cherry Blossom stamp from A Muse Art Stamps.   I stamped the image twice in black Versafine ink then filled in the flowers with white Liquid Applique.  Liquid Applique is like the puff paint we used to decorate sweatshirts.  When it is heated it puffs up.  Once I filled in the flowers, I set it aside because it puffs less once it is dry.  After about an hour, I heated each flower with the heat tool.  If you haven't done this before, make a test strip on scratch paper so you can get the feel for how much heat to apply.  You just want a little puff -- and be careful not to get to close or you will singe the puffs and have brown flowers!  After the flowers are puffed, take a light pink chalk and dust the top of each flower.  Viola!  Cherry Blossoms!  I colored in the leaves with a bit of green Prismacolor pencil.  The tiny butterflies are new from Memory Box as is the Happy Spring sentiment.

Paper-Flowers-lg

Here's another card using the same Cherry Blossom stamp and some tiny paper flowers from Doodlebug.  The sentiment is from the Hero Arts clear stamp set All Occasion Messages as is the cute tiny bird.

New Spellbinder Octagon Dies
Octagon-medallion-lgFelicity just dropped off her sample using the new large Octagon Scalloped dies -- isn't it gorgeous!  Here's the side view so you can see that it is a "medallion" or gift box decoration!  Octagon-medallion-2-lg

She will be teaching a class using all the Octagon dies in May so watch for more samples coming soon!

New Savvy Stamp Samples
Brayered-lgI got new stamps from Savvy last week and made some cool blue samples.  My friend Susan had never used a brayer before and wanted to see how one worked.  I brayered Blue Breeze Kaleidacolor ink on glossy cardstock for the background then stamped a flourish background (Impression Obsession) on top using Memento Bahama Blue.  The Damask stamp (Savvy) was inked in Blue Breeze and embellished wiht pearls.  Quick, easy but impressive!   Blue-tiled-lg
Next I stamped Savvy's Tiled Background (outline) on white cardstock in Bahama Blue.  I had to stamp it several times but it is easy to line up so no gaps!  I then stamped the Tiled Outline Bold in the same ink and die cut it using Spellbinders labels One.  The Damask Flower was stamped last and die cut also.  A little ribbon and a few pearls completes the card.  Last but not least, I returned to the damask stamp and using a black and white theme created a handsome card.

A Gorgeous Box
FrontMy dear friend Candy had to decorate a wooden box for a fund-raising auction for her garden club.  Candy is an accomplished faux painter so she painted the box in a number of colors of paints and glazes to get just the finish she was seeking.  Then she cut out butterflies from a pad of European Collage Papers (Tweety Jill) that she bought at The Stamp Act and mounted them dimensionally on the bottom of the box.  Inchie-Collage-TopFor the top of the box she created an inchie collage using a variety of stamp including the famous laughing lady from Paperbag Studio.  Her box placed a very close second in the contest -- second only to a professional artist!  Congratulations Candy on a gorgeous and creative box!

A Christmas Sleigh Ride
Front-1-lgSince I started with a 3D project using Spellbinders die I will finish with one inspired by Sharon Harnist.  I will be teaching this in our Monthly Christmas class, Wednesday, April 22 in the evening.  I used the Sleigh Ride and Stocking/Wreath dies from Spellbinders and then created the little boxes.  I hope you will join us for this class -- these would be perfect for place card holders at a holiday party and the litle boxes can even hold a tiny gift!  Here are a few more views:
