More Christmas Cards

I-O-Trees-lg I'm back with a few more quick and easy Christmas cards.  I am a big fan of trees, any kind of trees, so you'll be seeing more cards with more trees.  This card uses the new Impression Obsession Curvy Tree large and small as well as the Enjoy the Splendor sentiment.  The trees are stamped in Colorbox fluid chalk ink warm red then cut out and mounted on a Bazzill white card.  The sentiment is stamped in Versamark then embossed in silver.  The wonderful part of Impression Obsession stamps is that they come cling mounted which means you simply place them on an acrylic block and stamp.  Cling mount stamps are less expensive and easier to store.  Stop in soon and see them for yourself.

I-O-Whimsical-Trees-lg  Speaking of trees, here's the Impression-Obsession tree flourish stamped in black Versafine.  I colored the stars with Spica silver glitter pen and added a bow from the bright red Happy Holidays ribbon.  The "Sleigh Mail" post is the perfect finishing touch!

Stampendous-angel-lg The last card I have to share with you is such a pretty one.  The angel is from Stampendous as are the wings which are Class A'Peels stickers in a frosted white.  The angel is stamped in black Versafine ink then colored with Prismacolor pencils.  Crystal glitter is added to the stars.  The angel is then mounted with foam tape to a background created using an Anna Griffin stamp (Latin Verse) which has been embossed in silver.  The edges are torn and distressed using Ranger Distress ink Broken China.  The "Gloria" verse is a beautiful sentiment stamp from Wordsworth (Rubber Soul) and it is also embossed in silver then distressed using Broken China ink.

Join us this Saturday morning and you too can make these beautiful Christmas cards.  Thanks for reading!

Christmas Cards

Ready or Not, Christmas is coming.  This year we will be showing you some (truly) quick and easy yet still impressive cards.  I plan on making an array of seasonal cards using punches, but this weekend (Sat morning, 10am to noon) I am teaching cards that use the whole gamut of your craft closet including stamps, punches, paper, embellishments, glitter and so forth!  How fun to pull everything out and see where it takes you!

Stampendous-snowmen-lg     This card is a good example of combining decorative paper, embellishments and stamps.  The snowmen stamp is from Stampendous.  Once I decided to use the Imaginisce Snowy Jo paper as the background, I drew the colors (I used Prismacolor pencils) from the paper.  Then I antiqued the white paper so it would match the background better.  If you double click on the photo and look at it enlarged, you will see that under the pearlescent blue snowflake brad there is a ghost snowflake (Heidi Swap).  The sentiment (Memory Box) is stamped then cut out using a Spellbinders label die.  Cute card and very fast and easy!

Snowmen-lg  Jeri made this card using the same stamp but with a completely different color scheme.  She stamped the same stamp on the background paper and embossed it using White Diamonds embossing powder (JudiKins).  I love using non traditional colors for the holidays!

Popup-outside-lg  My second card uses a new Hero Arts snowflake stamp that is big enough to cover the whole background in one stamping! I stamped it in Versamark and embossed it in White Diamonds.  Then I added a Cuttlebug snowflake and a holiday sentiment (Memory Box) cut out using the Spellbinders label die.  OK so far, but look inside. Popup-inside-lg The snowman pops up when the card is opened!  Isn't that the cutest!  Again once you have he template for making the card, it will be very quick and easy!  Join us Saturday for all the fun of making these and more Christmas cards.

Faux Postage Stamping

Seasons-post-lgFaux Postage is a fun stamping technique which I find really sparks my creativity.  This coming Saturday afternoon (2 to 4pm) I will be teaching a class stamping faux postage and to make it easy we will be using a “Just For Fun rubber stamps” faux postage stamp and matching template.  I chose a variety of themes for these cards from fall and holiday images to a timeless birthday card.  I hope these cards will spark your interest and you will join us for this fun class:

   Winter-post-lg  Religous-post-lg

    Poinsettia-2-lg  Poinsettia-1-lg

Window-outside-lg Another class I scheduled for November 8 (10 to Noon) is the Fall leaves Card I showed you in my last post.  In case you missed it here’s the photo again.  This card uses Memory Box Twiggy paper and the Wizard Assorted Leaves die.  We will make a few other card using the Twiggy paper too.  If you love fall join us to express your love through stamping and paper crafting.

Sneak Peek

I have planned some really great classes for the holiday season.  One is a Holiday Countdown Calendar using the fabulous Karen Foster 3D Calendar box kit.   This unique set of boxes is 8” x 8” and includes 25 boxes (1 1/2" x 1 1/2") that can hold treats to reward someone for patiently waiting for the big event.  We will decorate the calendar for Christmas using decorative paper, stickers, stamps and die cuts.  Of course these calendars can be used for counting down to a birthday, wedding, graduation even Halloween.  Other ideas include "Summer Boredom Buster" and Boy's or Girl's Treasure Box.  I have also seen them decorated with photos and they look wonderful!

Unfortunately I will not even receive the boxes until the end of November so we will have to work fast to make the calendar and put it into use this year.  This class will be very limited so if you are interested email me ASAP so I can put your name on the list. I don't have a date chosen although I am thinking Sunday, Nov. 30 might be a good one.  Remember if you’re interested, email or call me now to get on the list!  The boxes will be $22.00 each.  You can also email or call me to pre-order boxes if you cannot attend the class.  Here are photos of the boxes plain and decorated:

 Plain-box-photo  Carolechristmascalendar

I have lots more in mind for the holidays so please stay tuned.  Most likely all of us are cutting back on our spending now and, while rubber stamps and paper crafting may not be considered necessities, they do make it possible for us to express ourselves in an artistic way.  Plus you can save money and delight your friends and family with handmade Christmas presents like a set of stamped cards, monogrammed stationery, a memory book of their child or dozens of other ideas.  You will have fun making the gift and your recipient will be thrilled to receive such a thoughtful present.  Stop in and get some inspiration soon!

Autumn Splendor on Paper

Those of us who live in the beautiful Southwest can only dream of leaves changing colors in the fall.  Since my Mom was originally from Massachusettes, I have visited family many times in the fall and delighted in the splendor of gold, red and orange leaves.  Recently as I was blog surfing, I saw a card Sharon Harnist made and posted on her blog "Paperfections" and decided to duplicate it.  As an aside, many of my customers apologize for "copying" a card design as if it makes their creation less of an accomplishment.  I can tell you it is not true!  I copied Sharon's design but there were lots of challenges along the way!  I am pleased with the final card and I hope it will inspire you to make some beautiful fall leaves ... if only on paper!

Window-outside-lg  This card starts with one of the gorgeous paper collections designed by Dave Brethauer of Memory Box.  This one is called Tiggy.  The card is 5 1/2" wide and 6" tall and it is "built" on a piece of brown Bazzill cardstock.  The leaves are die cut and embossed using the Spellbinders Assorted Leaves die and various sheets of Twiggy paper.  The square opening is cut with a Spellbinders Square Nestability die, and the oval tag and mat are cut with a Spellbinders Petite Ovals dies.  The verse in the square opening is from Serendipity and the verse on the oval tag is from Peddler's Pack.

Window-inside-lg If you look inside you see more leaves and more Twiggy paper.  Thanks Sharon for the inspiration and for a beautiful card!

Tree-lg  This Saturday's class has attracted quite an audience but I still have room if you're interested.  Or if you can't attend but would love to learn the technique, you have two options.  One, you can buy just the written instructions with photos for $10; or two, buy instructions, a set-up for each card plus the 11 Memento inks (dew drop size) and 6 jumbo daubers needed to make the cards for $50.  If you are interesed just send me an email at hellopolly@aol.com.

January-lg  Don't forget the wonderful Perpetual Desk Calendar we are making Sunday, November 2 for Spa Day.  Spa Day is an excuse for us to all get together and much, craft and much some more!  We will start at 10am with warm pumpkin apple bread (homemade from my apple tree!) and the coffee, tea or hot cocoa of your choice.  Then we will work a little on the calendar.  Lunch will be one of my favorites Green Chili Stew cornbread and mango salad.  Desert will be pumpkin cheescake!  In the afternoon we will finish our calendars munching on spice cookies and pumpkin fluff -- can you tell I am a fan of pumpkin!  Throught out the day we will have give aways and quick make and takes and everyone will go home with their project as well as a goody bag (retail value $20).  Don't miss the fun, the goodies and the muchies.  Register now for a great relaxing day with stamping friends!

Have a great weekend and stop in soon for inspiration and thousands of stamps, papers, and inks!

Fairy Stamps

Hi everyone.  All is well here in the beautiful El Paso Southwest.  It's a gorgeous fall day: cool, crisp and clear.  In-bed-10-08Unfortunately I think my precious Chloe (7 year old Bichon) is a little under the weather.  She has been sleeping more than usual lately and her appetite comes and goes.  Of course her social calendar has been fuller than usual.  She had grooming Friday (we call it her spa day), a dinner party Friday night (see next paragraph), and tonight we are going to my friend Buddy's house for burgers.  Buddy's two dogs Sadie and Tina will wear her out so I expect she will sleep all day Monday.

Linda-Party-10-08 Friday night we said goodbye to our good friend and customer Linda Anderson who is moving to Lexington, KY to manage the Continental Airlines station.  I had a few friends over to my house for dinner and we laughed, traded stories and caught up on Linda's news about her move.  In the picture at left, (back row) is Candy with Chloe, Linda, Sheila and me.  Susana and Felicity are kneeling in the front row and Jeri is taking the photo.  We will miss Linda, but hope because she works for Continental she will visit often.

I feel a little like Garrison Keeler of the radio show "A Prairie Home Companion", when I say it's been a quite week at The Stamp Act.  October-lg The Perpetual Desk Calendar (see October 12 post) is creating a lot of buzz and Spa Day, November 2 when we will make the calendar is filling up. There's still room so please join us for lots of fun!

Tree-lg The customers who attended the "Is It Autumn Yet?" class on Saturday really enjoyed learning the technique for making these lovely cards.  Everyone did beautiful blending of the colors and felt confident they could make more cards on their own.  I am giving the class again this coming Saturday, Oct. 25 from 10 am to noon.  Just give me a call or an email if you'd like to attend.  Or if you cannot attend, I am happy to provide the instructions for $10.  You will of course have to purchase or provide the stamps used.

Butterfly-Fairy  Fairies are a very popular image with young ladies these days so when my customer Tammee asked me to order some for her I was happy to do so.  These are from Peddler's Pack and I think they are the most beautiful and creative fairy stamps I have seen.  Look how precious these are:

Bad-to-Bone-front A new shipment of Day of the Dead stamps arrived Saturday so if you need any pop in next week and grab them before they fly out of here again.

Well I guess I better get busy in the workroom.  Happy Stamping and please stop in soon to see us!

Day of the Dead

Mark Jetton, owner of Deadbeat Designs, makes the most fantastic samples with his stamps.  He specializes in Texas stamps and chocolate stamps but he has also has a wide variety of other images.  This year he added some wonderful Day of the Dead stamps to his line.  In case you don't know, in the Southwest Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a  Mexican holiday celebrated Nov. 1 and 2.  It is dedicated to remembering and honoring the dead.  It is believed that the spirits of our loved ones return on these special days to be with family and friends, and one way to welcome them is to build ofrendas or offerings that include their favorite food, music, photos and other symbolic offerings.  Mark created several Day of the Dead cards that resemble ofrendas or shrines.

3-dancing-skeletons  Here three skeletons dance with their sombreros in front of a Dia de los Muertos image that has been made to look like "paper picado."  Paper picado is a craft in popular in Mexico that entails cutting folded tissue or crepe paper into intricate repeating shapes.

Graphic 45 Playtimes Past Papers

Many of you have asked about the papers I used on the Perpetual Desk Calendar (see October 12 post).  All the papers were from Graphic 45 Papers and in my opinion they are some of the most artistic and original I have seen in a long time.  Their new Playtimes Past collection coordinates very well with their earlier release called Times Nouveau.  Let me show you their papers -- first Playtimes Past.  Note:  I have reached the limit of my knowledge to try to get those two pictures to load.  Please double click on them to see the paper.

Isn't this paper unique?  It would be perfect for heritage scrapbooking.  The last image above (right) is a sheet of die cut tags.  They are perfect for cards and for scrapbooking.  Now the Times Nouveau collection:

New Monogram Stamper -- More Samples

Felicity is still working on samples for her Monogram stamper class on Oct. 25.  Here's one she dropped off this morning:  Celebrate-the-season-lgThis card uses the large (3 1/4") stamper and one of the new Christmas borders and centers.  Felicity also used the new Cuttlebug snowflake card combo in the center.  A beautiful card -- thanks Felicity!

Halloween Sample

Beginner-Spells-sampleLook at this card that Peddler's Pack included in my order that arrived today.  The sentiment stamp is called Beginner Spells and the witch is a punch (I don't know the manufacturer).  I see this stamp as a great background for all kinds of witches, notions and potions and scary things!  Fun!

Perpetual Desk Calendar

With the events of the last week being so disturbing and depressing, I for one am glad to turn to paper crafting and stamping for a much needed diversion.  Before I share with you my latest project, I want to show you a card that Harriet (one of our teachers) created based on my recent post of cards inspired by Michelle Zindorf’s techniques.

HHH-Tree-lg

Harriet’s cards features a tree designed by Dave Brethauer for Rubber Moon.  Isn’t it wonderful?  Her shading is really well done.

Here are a couple more cards that I made using the same technique:

Spider-lg

Forest-floor-2-lg

If you are interested in learning this technique, I am teaching it on Saturday, Oct 18 from 2 to 4pm and on Saturday, Oct 25 from 10 to noon.  Just give me a call or email to register.

Winter-Birds-Barn-OwlSpeaking of Harriet, here’s another of her cards that I haven’t shown you before.  The barn owl stamp (another wonderful clear stamp set from Inkadinkado) is stamped on snowflake paper from Reminisce.

Felicity has been working on samples for her class with all the new goodies from Just Rite.  Take a look at these:

Jelly-Jar-lg  Jelly-Jar-Lid-lg  Merry-Xmas-card-lg

On the card at left, Felicity used the new 3 ¼” stamper and the Christmas borders and centers set.  On the top of the jelly jar, she used the “Enjoy” stamp from the new 2 5/16” Stampers II Ensemble.  The hang tag on the jelly jar is made from a new Cuttlebug Card Combo featuring four trees.

This is a gift card or coupon (coupon and sentiments stamps from Hero Arts) holder that uses the new Trompe font set and the medium size oval stamper on the cover.  Inside she has constructed a gift card or coupon holder that is embellished with a dove from the new Dove Cuttlebug Card Combo.  Isn't this the cutest way to present a lucky someone with a gift card?  I can't wait to see what else Felicity creates!

Jeri has been busy too stamping all kinds of chilis!  Fall in the Southwest means bright red chili ristras so Jeri has made chilis the theme of her class this Saturday, Oct 18 from 10 to noon.     She used several techniques including resist on these cards making them a perfect refresher if you haven’t stamped in a while, are new to stamping or just love chilis!  Call me or Jeri and come have some "chili" fun!

November-lg   This week I finished a Perpetual Desk Calendar which will be the project for our upcoming Spa Day at the Stamp Act on Sunday, November 2.  Spa Day means stamping, paper crafting, eating and laughing all day!  It’s a day to inspire and refresh you and we invite you to join us for all the fun.  For the calendar you can choose the paper you wish to use as well as the color of the binding wires.  You will also receive a special goody bag (worth $20 retail) plus lunch, snacks and beverages.

January-lg As I mentioned above, the calendar is perpetual so you can use it from year to year.  The pockets on the right hold tabbed cards for each of the months in the quarter.  On the back of each card you will have room to record special dates during that particular month.  I used the darling Penny Black number set to create the numbers on the left side of the calendar.  All the paper is from Graphic 45 papers.  I hope you will consider joining us for this fun day.  Just give me a call or email if you have questions.  NOTE:  I am not sure it will last all day so if that’s an issue let’s discuss it.

In honor of my birthday, let me give you a present!  For this week only (Oct 14 through Oct 20), buy one clear stamp set and receive a 10% discount; buy two sets and receive a 20% discount; and buy three sets and receive a 30% discount!  WOW!  That's a great savings!  We have mnay sets in stock from Hero, Stampendous, Inkadinkado and many others!  Don't miss the savings -- hurry in this week and mention this blog post.  I hope to see you soon!

Is It Autumn Yet?

Good Morning Stampers!  Aren’t you glad it’s fall?  I am.  It’s my favorite time of the year.  Even with the meltdown on Wall Street and the contentious presidential election, there are still things to be grateful for.  The cooler weather, plump orange pumpkins, bright red chili ristras and colorful trees – these are all small miracles that we should never take for granted.

Today I want to share with you some cards I created using the techniques of Michelle Zindorf for inspiration.  Michelle, a very talented stamper, uses a brayer to lay down color on her cards.  While I love working with a brayer, I chose instead to adapt her creative ideas to another tool.  Let me also credit our own very talented teacher Harriet Head for her recent “Moon Cards” class for teaching me some of the techniques I use on these cards.  Enough with the credit, let me show you the cards I made and will teach in my upcoming “Is It Autumn Yet?” class on Saturday, October 18 at 2 to 4pm and Saturday, October 25 at 10 to noon.

Witch-lg  Tree-lg  Round-tree-lg  Winter-tree-lg

I just love this technique.  I used two stamp sets from Inkadinkado, Fall Season and All Hallows Eve, the new bare tree stamp from Memory Box , and one of the tree stamps from the Stampendous Winter Trees set.  I hope you can join me for one of these classes so you can learn how to create these colorful fall cards!

Just Rite Monogram Stampers are here!

Imagine a self-inking monogram stamper that is interchangeable, customizable and allows you to design and personalize your own rubber stamp. All the wonderful new monogram stamper sets are here!  Now there are 3 sizes of round mounts (1 5/8", 2 5/16" and 3 1/4") plus 2 sizes of rectangle mounts and 2 sizes of oval mounts.  There are borders and centers designed specifically for Christmas, birthday, all occasion, baby, wedding and baking.  And there are two new font sets that let you choose just the right font for your artwork.  Felicity will teach a class on Sat, Oct. 26 from 2 to 4pm using the stamper so don't miss this chance to learn how to personalize all your holidays gifts and cards.  I will be posting her samples very soon.  We have lots in stock right now so rush in to be the first to have some of these new goodies!  To see lots of fun samples of what you can do with the monogram stamper, visit www.justritestampers.com
