Spellbinders Nestabilities Turn 1!

Hello friends.  I am so sorry it's been a week since I blogged, but I have lots to share with you today and in the next couple days.  This past week or so, I have been very busy making improvements to the store.  In case you think all I have to do is call the landlady, think again.  Gloria and I have an understanding: she doesn't raise the rent and I don't ask for any improvements.  So last week my handy man Jose replaced all the weatherstripping around the back door to prevent dust and sand from covering our back room.  Then he replaced the screen in the front door and repainted the door -- it looks so much nicer and fresher. Plus no holes!  He also built risers for the new paper racks so you won't have to bend over so far to reach the bottom shelves.  Unfortunately we had a little communication problem last Monday and Jose wasn't here when UPS delivered our new paper racks in four huge, heavy boxes.  I had to unpack them then muscle the boxes to the dumpster.  This was after completely reorganizing the punch section and several smaller paper racks  order to make room for the new racks.  Needless to say I was hot and tired after that day.  But everything really looks great now -- here are some photos:

And speaking of paper, we just received the hottest new collection from Little Yellow Bicycle.  Vita Bella is an eclectic collection that combines Victorian designs with modern graphic patterns and fashionable floral accents in a lush and vibrant color palette of bold blues and soft greens.  Several of the papers and embellishments feature rich metallic foil accents.  Both luxurious and fresh, Vita Bella captures the beauty of everyday life.  Vita Bella ... come enjoy the beautiful life!  Here's a look at some of the designs:

Another paper that we just received is the new Color Me series from Luze Designs.  These single-sided 12" x 12" papers are printed on 65-lb weight paper and are ideal for scrapbooking, card making or other paper crafts.  You can color the images, cut them apart or use them as a whole.  Color Me papers will bring out your creativity.  Stop in to pick up a few sheets -- they are great for the kids too!  Here are two samples I made:

Spellbinders and The Wizard

It's official!  After months of waiting, the new Wizard machines will start shipping this week!  Many of you have pre-ordered the Wizard and I will call you as soon as it arrives.  Its not too late to get one of the first ones; just email me at hellopolly@aol.com.

New-Wizard The new Wizard will be easier for beginners due to the softly rounded ergonomics.  It is still made with the same high quality steel construction and weighs only 7 lbs, but it is a beautiful "raspberry" color.   This little machine is capable of creating 3,000 lbs of pressure to assure sharp cuts and deep embossing on each and every project.  And the best news is that it has a new lower price of only $99 (plus $6 shipping).

Excalibur Now for an update on the long awaited Excalibur.  You will remember that the Excalibur is the new motorized Wizard.  Based on the input of retailers and consumers alike, Spellbinders technical team decided to continue its push for high quality, versatility, affordable pricing and foremost safety.  They wanted to start shipping the Excalibur this fall, but it appears that it won't be available until Spring 2009.  The delay is disappointing, but I believe it will ultimately surpass all our expectations.

Because The Stamp Act was one of the very first retail stores to see the Wizard, many of you have the original model.  If you are wondering whether to upgrade to the newest Wizard, stop in the store and I will demo the new Wizard for you and discuss the merits of the new machine.

What's Happening at The Stamp Act

Hi everyone.  Is it hot enought for you?   Wow, it has really been dreadful -- good days to stay inside in the airconditioning and stamp!

Our Annual Patio Party Sale was a huge success and thanks to all who atteneded.  Jeri's calsses were a big hit and Dave's new images are elegant and "flourishy" (if that's a word)!  His new papers are divine -- capturing all the realism of nature in a veyr "stamper-friendly" way.  Stop in soon and see for yourself the beauty of his new collection.

Speaking of sales -- we have marked hundreds of stamps down to 50% off or $1 -- yes there are lots of stamps for only a buck!  Plus we have a huge display of flower stamps and seashore stamps that are also marked down 50% for one week only.  Don't miss the savings on these last two categories now through June 21.

Even though our semi-annual tradeshow, CHA Summer, is still a month away, many companies are releasing new stamps and papers now.  Hero Arts new Summer release will be here this week.  They've got really cool new background stamps and their all-new 12" long borders.  I only bought one of these -- and yes I bought 12" acrylic blocks for it too!  The one I bought is the travel borders; I liked it because it will make great borders in a travel book.  Here's a preview:
Travel borders    Floating-leaf-pattern  Happiness-grows
These are just a few -- check out the entire collection at The Stamp Act soon!

My Friend and instructor Harriet Head from Las Cruces introduced me to a wonderful new paper company this weekend.  I am now officially broke because of harriet's great taste!!!  Not only did I buy two new paper collections but I had to buy two new paper racks to hold them!  Anyway, Graphic 45 Papers' Times Nouveaux collection recalls the flamboyant style of the 1920's and 1930's capturing that era's vintage charm and combining it with vibrant color, irresdistible texture and imaginative design to create paper with a decades-old appeal that's both fresh and familiar.  Their other collection, with the improbably name of "Baby 2 Bride," has everything you want to make a baby book sing or to pamper a new bride.  The papers are unique and I know you will love them.  Here's a preview -- they should arrive in a week or so:

Here'a sample of Harriet's cards -- watch for an upcoming class!

Well this blog program just earsed an hour's work and I don't have any more time to spare.  Please trust me that you will love the papers!

Don't miss our first Demo's on Demand this Thyrusday and Friday.  We will be showing you how to use the Ribbon Slot Punch Tool.  I will try to write more about it tomorrow.  Happy Summer Stamping!

More Penguins from Memory Box

It's summer and one way to stay cool is to play with the new Memory Box penguins.  OK, OK ... I thought the penguin things was over too -- I mean come on how many do we need for goodness sake?  Then I got the email from Dave with the new images and they are really cute!  Take a look for yourself:

Baseball-board  Golfer-board

Bee-board

We will also be offering the Penguin contest again this year.  To enter, make a card using any of the brand new penguin stamps (you may also use non-Memory Box stamps) and enter it at The Stamp Act.  First prize will be a set of cards and envelopes from Memory Box plus the recently released Penguin clear stamp set from Memory Box.  The contest runs from June 15 to August 15 and you may enter more than once.

But first I need your feedback on which penguin stamps you like.  Please leave me a comment on which you would like me to order -- I love the aviator and the cowboy, but I plan to get the doctor penguin to make a card for my brother the doctor!  Let me know which ones appeal to you!

Butterfly-Card Felicity dropped in yesterday with a card she made using the new Black Market Paper Society paper (don't you just love that name?) .  She mounted a punched red butterfly on one of the Ebony and Alabaster papers then stamped the sentiment on the same paper and cut it out using one of the new Spellbinders label tags.  Thanks Felicity for a great sample!

My friend Sheila asked me to mention some good advice for summer:

This summer, don’t forget to Slip! Slop! Slap! Wrap!® Slip! on a shirt, Slop! on sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher), Slap! on a hat, and Wrap! on a pair of sunglasses to protect yourself from the strong summer sun. For more information on sun safety, call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.”

Happy Stamping and Paper Crafting -- come and see all the wonderful new things we have in store at the The Stamp Act!

Paper, Paper Everywhere

Grunge-Heart-Tag-lg Who can resist the fabulous new papers these day?  Not me for sure as our bulging paper shelves can attest.  This week we got in three new collections that are just stunning.  First, from a brand new company named mysteriously Black Market Paper Society we received the Ebony and Alabaster and Letters from Paradise collections.  Not only are these papers beautiful in color and design, but they are soft and textural like fabric.  Here's a collage card that I made yesterday using one of the Ebony and Alabaster collection.  By the way this card will be featured in the upcoming Collage Card class on June 21.

Here are photos of the paper:

Our third new collection is totally different, but equally gorgeous!  It is appropriately named "All Things Happy" from Imaginisce.  You really must see it to appreciate it because it is strategically glittered.  The glitter is perfectly placed on the images!  Get this quick because it's going to sell out fast!

Fun Paper!  Hurry in to see it in person!

My Zoophabet Book is finally finished and the absolutely perfect paper that I chose for the book comes from Making Memories' Jack and Ella Animal Crackers collections!  The cover paper has flocked letters and other papers in the collection are die cut (stars and flowers), glittered dots and varnished dots.  Again, you have to see it to believe it!

What's New at The Stamp Act

Hello to my blog readers.  As you know, I am still learning how the blogging software  works.  I have learned that it doesn't like a lot of photos.  So if I create several posts in one day, it's because I don't want to "bog the blog" as I call it.  We all like "visuals" so just keep reading from one post to another!

I have so many things to share with you today.  I first would like to show you a few pages of the Basic Grey Periphery Bracket album I just finished with the photos inserted.  As you will remember, this album captures a few photos of my great nephew Brody's first birthday.  You will see that each set of pages offers space for photos on one page and a pocket for journaling cards on the facing page.  The journaling cards were created with heart and oval journaling stamps from Stampendous that were then cut out and matted using Nestabilities and the Wizard.  Here are a few examples:
Album-Cover  Page-2

Page-3  Page-7
We still have Basic Grey Periphery Bracket Album kits available for only $35 so call or email me to reserve one.

Classes: Past, Present and Future

Flower-pot-thanks This past weekend Jeri gave a great workshop on the new Monogramming stampers from Just Rite Stampers.  I sat in for part of it and learned so much that i decided we should repeat the class.  So if you have purchased the stamper or are thinking about buying it. I strongly encourage you to attend.  This class will be scheduled during for a weekday evening from 6 to 8pm.  More details on our website soon.  Jeri made the "flower pot thanks" card (left) with the stamper and the new Treading Water border punch from Fiskars --cute and colorful!

Page-5-lg This Saturday morning our class features a star book with a western theme.  My niece Emilee's birthday is in June and she loves horses so this will make a perfect birthday card for her.  In the class you will learn all about making star books plus coloring with Prismacolor pencils then blending colors using Odorless MIneral Spirits.  Outlines-Birthday-lgSaturday afternoon, Felicity will teach "Birthday Cards" using the ever-popular Outlines Rubber Stamps.  Please give me a call if you'd like to attend either class.
